Eating my bottom's ass is one of my favourite parts of sex. I think that eating ass, as many aspects of sex, is about power. The top is basically getting the bottom ready to be fucked, even if that does not happen, the power to prepare him for sex in that manner is an exertion of power. Even if the bottom is enjoying it, the power of bringing the bottom joy in this manner is also a power turn on. I rarely get my ass eaten and I rarely bottom. Might have something to do with nature. I see lower animals, dogs in particular, do it all the time. Maybe it’s an instinct evolution did not take away as we got up the chain.

It's definitely primal and about domination as @purplekow said. On my side, I feel it's one of the upmost demonstrations of trust coming from a top. While for some it may be about domination or getting a bottom ready, as a bottom for me it's definitely not about that. I'm not sure why I enjoy rimming so much. I enjoy both giving and receiving, but probably giving more. One of my favorite regulars about 15 years ago was a very cute college guy who just loved being eaten. Never done it. Don't really plan to. I fast forward or turn off porn when they stead spending too much time on rimming, stretching, or fingering themselves. But it's not just ani. I'm not that fond of giving head or the taste of cum either although I'm a lot more likely to give head (and have occasionally) than I am to rim.

Having been with some straight guys in intimacy, I can confirm! Ew! Only the very few who wanted or agreed to be rimmed were clean but as you say, the vast majority are dirty. However, the link I posted above refers to rimming being taboo among straight folks because of health issues specially for the women. Also, from conversations with straight colleagues I've learned that some women and men consider anal activities as 'unnatural' (because of religion I think), then some men would not like to explore their female partners arses (I suppose they have enough with some women's strong vaginal smell and they just don't want to imagine anything beyond that), and finally some women are 100% sure that if a man is into anal he's gay.
