RE: Expertise

Skeptic is saying SORRY? AND making nice to Matt!

all in the same Post? DID SOMEONE JUST SEE THAT PIG FLY BY THE WINDOW? : )

Just funning, Skeptic. Your last post hinted at a not bad guy there under all the skepticism.

As the author of Matt's last review, I can assure you that he is indeed a class act, and genuinely cares about his friend. Period.

'Nuff said about all this.

RE: Expertise

The only clean worded phrase we were never allowed to say in my parents' house was "Shut up." Is this "nuff said" related? Or is it a joking reference to Marvel comics and will comfortably brook a continued conversation?

RE: Expertise

'nuff said is a polite way of saying theres not much more to be said about the subject, Bilbo. It was actually a light hearted attempt to inject some humour in what appeared to be a thread running down, as they all do. I stand corrected.

RE: Expertise

We probably have offered just about all the good advice we've got, Matt. Though I do stand in hope of someone coming up with something better. If it is not too indiscreet, please let us know when and if your friend does what.

Blackmail is such an immature sort of thing and even though there are consequences...it is better to call their bluff. One escort in vegas got the brilliant idea of trying to blackmail an aging teen idol...what did it get him? run out of town.

Here are some simple instructions for those of you being blackmailed...

go to the police

set the bastard up

throw him in jail

For you married folk...get with it...the in thing to do these days is to have a boyfriend on the side...well...i am married, but i prefer fuck buddies...and i am definitely not giving up my wife for some twink.

RE: Expertise

Matt, to cut through all of the bs, unless the victim has a good friend in law enforcement who is willing to talk to the blackmailer privately and persuade him to knock it off, there is no way to get rid of a blackmailer that does not involve making his accusations public. With the cooperation of a sympathetic policeman it is sometimes possible to persuade a blackmailer to give it up or the police will make life very difficult for him (especially if he has a record). But there are no legal measures that your friend can take that do not require disclosure.

I assume your friend has some evidence that blackmail has occurred -- this would require evidence not merely of the payments made but also of the blackmailer's threat. If so, if I were in your friend's position, I suppose I would tell the blackmailer that I was not willing to make any more payments and that if he retaliated by disclosing my secret I would prosecute, but if he did not I would let the matter rest.

RE: Expertise

Let me add that hiring an assassin to rid himself of a blackmailer is just about the stupidest advice anyone could possibly give your friend. Being blackmailed because you have committed a minor but embarrassing misdemeanor like hiring a prostitute is one thing -- being blackmailed because you have engaged in a conspiracy to commit murder is quite another.
