If this had happened to Democrats, MSNBC would be blaming Putin/Russia. Conspiracy theories run wild on both sides these days...

But it happened to the GOP on a train to Greenbrier in West Virginia (see photo above).

It's a luxury resort for the rich. I stopped there for coffee and breakfast a few years ago. The staff treated me very well -- because of the high prices.:)

You know what? I was watching MSNBC when the incident happened. I thought their coverage, including talking to congressmen on the train, etc (I'm sure all the networks were, of course), was very professional and very compassionate. There was ZERO mention of partisanship, or other political issues of the day, or anything else outside of the accident that did, in fact, cost someone their life.

I was at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV back in October spending an hour walking about the hotel prior to the Bunker Tour. The resort as a whole is simply breathtaking, and I described it this way:

“The hotel’s interior is an eclectic mash-up of bright and pastel colors, elegant designs and finishings, and crazy carpet and tile patterns that seem impossible, but somehow manage to work well together to make an incredibly opulent, luxurious, palatial, and magnificent visual.”

I wish that I could have spent more time after the tour, but I had a full day of other sightseeing and headed out towards Beartown State Park and Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park afterwards, and by accident stumbled across the wonderful Pearl S. Buck Birthplace and museum in Hillsboro, WV before heading home.

@BroadwayDave: My concern is so much of West Virginia is economically underwater.

It is indeed ironic that the GOP (protectors of the rich and wealthy, corporate, etc.) would be traveling to one of the nation’s poorest states on a glamorous retreat to a fabulous luxury resort. I’m guessing this chartered Amtrak with them and their family was all done at taxpayer’s expense? Wonder who they learned that from?

And yes, they should have stayed in DC, working. There’s nothing that could’ve been done at The Greenbrier concerning our nation’s business that could have also been done in Washington. But I guess they needed a vacation?

The have received SO much money from the Federal government... Socialism doesn't work, take a look at the poorest whitest counties in Appalachia and the South but if you call them socialist they get offended by the truth.

Yet the poor in WV vote in overwhelming way for Republicans because of cultural wars, talking about shooting themselves in the foot over and over again. Funny how some are have conservative values when it comes to guns, gays, God, immigrants, etc. and at the same time they lack them when it comes to responsibility, using condoms, going to college, getting married first have children after, not using drugs, eating healthy, etc.

I voted Democrat. I’ve always been a Democrat. But I wasn’t born and raised here either. Having lived here for only eleven years I can definitely see what your talking about. A lot of the people that I have known since I have lived here have or have had drug abuse problems, are single “baby’s daddy” moms (some with multiple kids) with live-in boyfriends and are on government programs (all were eventually evicted for not paying their bills and/or selling drugs), are HS dropouts, or are morbidly obese (it’s cheaper to eat off of the McDonald’s Dollar Menu than cook and eat healthy).

But they’re quick to condemn Democrats in favor of “shooting themselves in the foot”and voting Republican. West Virginia is confused.

And one of my friends just went back to the coal mines. You know those jobs are coming back en masse. They were promised. I wonder how long that will last.

Because of Obama Care it's assumed miners and folks who live nearby who have respiratory issues have black lung, before that they had to pay out of pocket tests to exclude many other possibilities.
