According to the UK's Independent they are first year students at the Ulyanovsk Aviation Institute. And they were remaking a similar video done by

 

Apparently, they were going to be punished severely, including possible expulsion, but the whole SatisfactionChallenge was a national protest response that succeeded in forcing the Russian government and the school administration to back down.
