just needed to vent / give a PSA

I was careless and also someone decided to steal from me. I know they needed the money more than I do, but it still stings.

Took a large portion of my net worth - very fortunate that I have some cryptocurrency that was not hijacked. (Which will be great until all crypto crashes... /s)

Everyone, especially companions, please be careful with keeping too much cash around. Regular, small trips to the bitcoin ATM ;)

I hope it was not someone close to you, Oliver. A whole in your savings is easier to fix than a whole in your heart.

Been there, done that..... It's awful. I knew the person that did it to me... It was more a "Can a Borrow: situation, so I was complicit.

Sometimes I wonder about having too much.... (although I dont think I made that global Rich list ? :() but others that DONT sometimes feel entitled to what YOU have...

Dont let it break you....you'll bounce back in time.

If you are keeping large amounts of cash because you are an escort, you should speak to a financial advisor about things you can do to set up a legal entity to put some of the money through. You can do things like set up a pension plan for yourself. And yes you would have to pay taxes on some the income you report, but that also gets you things like Social Security protection if things go south. Being completely off the grid financially is extremely risky.

If you feel uncomfortable taking some of the suggestions from above, a simple house safe that is either bolted to the concrete or secured to the floor boards would give you some peace of mind. They are relative inexpensive and can be installed with simple tools. I can't ever remember not having one. Spend a little extra and get one that is fire rated to a degree that would protect your contents if the building burned down or survive most natural disasters. Jewelry, extra cash, important papers, passports etc. can all be safely protected for very little money. You can also get creative and install it someplace that most people would never dream of looking.

Back in the “Gaiety” days in NYC, a dancer friend had finished the week with net proceeds of just over $10,000 by Sunday night. After it was stolen Sunday evening, I remember him angry not only at the large fiscal loss but complaining how many old cocks he had to suck to get those funds! :(

Never dawned on me that Gaiety dancers would be sucking the clientele's cocks.

I'm sorry to hear that. Obviously you are not going to share many details, I guess it was someone you trusted. I'm sure some folks on here who escort will give you good advice about how to prevent this from happening again.

In my previous abode I had 2 safes - one in a fairly obvious place and one NOBODY would find. The first i referred to as a "mugger's" safe and i kept a small amount of cash and papers. The other had all the good stuff, including cash.

When I sold that house I showed the buyer only the mugger's safe. Believe me, he'll never find the other one unless he does some remodelling. He was an asshole!

I hear folk used to do that in the bad old days in NYC: carry an old wallet stuffed full of ones and expired credit cards. It's not like the mugger is going to inspect the contents thoroughly before scampering off.

There was a WIDE range of what people were amenable to. Many(not all) of the Canadians seemed to be genuinely bi/gay and were often up for anything - more than I was in fact. At the time I was one of the younger patrons, and in decent shape myself though. Then there were people like Chris from Baltimore who would do more for more money. The Americans tended to be a waste of time, with some exceptions. There was one, I think his name was Lance, who was built like a statue, looked vaguely like a buffer Rob Lowe, but he was just completely immobile. I just got up and left.

If I could say without embarrassment the number of times I've had some young men somehow find my wallet or where I have my cash take that with them, well it is embarrassment. I mean men who I've seen for a while and others. I now have a little secret thing to catch them. Now, I don't just engage with suspected men but sometimes it happens, and I'm a nice person.

I've been doing that for years!! I've actually given up my old wallet twice while being mugged in Detroit.

There's lots of good tips here about decoy wallets and safes and such. I try not to take my wallet with me if I'm meeting the escort outside my home. That way I can only lose the cash I have with me and no credit cards. But yes if you have to host then you have to have good hiding places I guess.

Another good suggestion that I always ignore is to not use your phone/tablet/computer on public transit. I mean you're sitting there with time on your hands. 90% of people are going to use their phone. And, yes, I had my phone stolen from me on the train once. In Santa Monica of all places. :(
