Enough with the technology hijacking--the duct tape in episode two tonight really freaked me out!

Viewing,

Kipp

I thought the Old dude was a goner when he jabbed those scissors in ?

And I was never aware (I dont think) that Versace had AIDS ? That was something they chose to keep hidden and revealed in the movie. And thanks for Ricky Martins ASS ! (it really elevated THAT scene)

"Assassination?" REALLY? He wasn't a politician or a civil rights leader.

Here sniper, LEARN......

Assassination is the killing of a prominent person, either for political reasons or for payment.[1]

An assassination may be prompted by religious, political, or military motives; it is an act that may be done for financial gain, to avenge a grievance, from a desire to acquire fame or notoriety, or because of a military, security or insurgent group's command to carry out the homicide

Judith Light was excellent as Mrs Miglin. But her role as yet another strong woman was too much (at least for me).

Are you familiar with the REAL Marilyn Miglin ? If you were, you would realize her performance fell short, although she was brilliant . Marilyn often hawks her wares on HSN shopping channel, and is a very cold, stoic woman. I remember her on screen when the actual event occurred, although the public didnt know the Real details at the time. Cunannan was one Sicko ! His motivation was jealousy over others success, but so far it is not revealed WHY he only targeted Older, closetted Gays ?

Who wants to be My clients like Andrew had his

I won’t kill u

Well, geez. That sure sets the bar low.

I still haven't decided what I think about Murphy's take on it. Other than that it probably has very little to do with reality. We know the murders happened, but we don't know why. Although I'll go with Lady Kockwood and what Ryan Murphy pretty much seems to say: jealousy that they get to be all that, and our loser didn't measure up. How could he, when he's competing with men like Versace and Miglin, who get to have Ricky Martin's ass in bed, or potentially build the tallest building in the world? Talk about size queen! Even Lady Kockwood would blush.

Ricky Martin was quoted somewhere as saying this was meant to be a painting, not a photograph. And that's sure true. It's interesting that Murphy stayed close to facts on some minute gory details - like an onlooker who smeared Versace's blood on a print ad as a souvenir. And then he goes and makes up incredible amounts of stuff about shit we don't really know - like that Lee Miglin was a closeted queer taken down savagely by a murder boy escort. Well, maybe.

I think what bothers me is that this is a throwback to the 90's in another way: the portrayal of Gays in general, and of Gay escorts in particular - basically as murderous, sick filth. The Celluloid Closet came out in 1995, a few years before the events in this series. With 20/20 hindsight, the very fact that that documentary was made signaled a change in how Gays were portrayed in Hollywood. In the last two decades there's been a golden age of "boy meets boy, and boy doesn't murder boy" fun and moving love stories. So this is kind of a throwback to the bad old days.

Early in my escort career I remember going to the Castro Theater during an LGBTQ film fest to see some forgettable low budget film that was billed in the written festival summary as a sensitive portrayal of a Gay escort. The film ended up being about a psychopathic rentboy who murdered a client. At that time I think pretty much any movie made that portrayed a Gay escort showed him to be: a) a psychopathic killer, or 2) a victim of a psychopathic killer. At this particular show, the director was there to do a Q & A after the movie. So I took him on and referred to the film guide verbiage about sensitive escort and asked why he chose to portray the escort character as another pretty but totally fucked up mess. His not too clever answer was that he had nothing to do with the summary written in the guide, and he just thought it was an interesting portrayal. Whatever. I know at the time it got under my skin that being Gay was still considered bad enough, but being a Gay escort was considered by many as being pretty much Cruising material.

I may be long-winded, but I swear to God in my entire whoring career I really haven't murdered a client. Or anyone. Ever. Really.

So this is kind of a trip down cultural memory lane, in a time when the real world seems so much better. And since we have Ryan Murphy to thank for things like Glee and Darren Criss as Kurt's teenage dream boytoy, he sure gets a pass on this. Maybe it's even cathartic that we can look back on what used to be a pretty solid cultural stereotype and say "Not!" It is so 1990's.

And by the way, I still have a DVD and a VHS player. Although don't you guys record shit? I just fast forward through the commercials.

And I actually thought it was interesting, in the scene where he's driving to Miami, that Criss was singing some 90's trash song - what was it? Gloria? - and they made it sound like he couldn't carry a tune. Clearly, his Glee days are over. He's a good actor.

This is really NOT about escorting, Its about a SICK individual who happens to escort, among other things. It doesnt appear he ever had a real job, but we are just getting into his background. and it was balanced in showing different kinds of Gay life, the party and circuit scene, and the closetted Gay scene. The Miglin mess was covered up because of his status, but I can believe what was shown to be true. Its gory and salacious, but most of Murphys work has a sick, twisted element to it. So many scenes in American Horror Story I had to cover my eyes. Perhaps by the time we get to the end, we will have a better idea of motivation and reason behind the "duct taping" ? I sure am curious. And like I said above, Criss is really embracing this role !

I understand. My reference was to Murphy's last mini-series on Crawford and Davis. The only major character still alive (Olivia de Havilland) sued Murphy.

Hollywood casts a 101-year-old actress as a threat to docudramas

You're right, it's not about escorting.

To me, it's about Ryan Murphy always taking the most cliched, sensationalized story arch possible without the prior character development to support it. What he does isn't that shocking anymore because clearly he can't help but throw the entire box of shit against the wall all at once.

A good director/writer meters these things. It's like writing a Broadway musical with all 11 o'clock numbers. Doesn't work. I hope the show continues to deepen relationships and the understanding of the cartoon characters he's put before us.
