Just watched the first episode. Unfortunately there were so many lengthy commercial breaks that there was no sense of continuity.

Darren Criss' performance seems to really be a tour-de-force. Without going over the top he seems to embody the insanity of his character. If it keeps up to what he has done so far, he will definitely be in award contention next year.

Unfortunately, Ricky Martin is not an actor. Penelope Cruz is creditable - but far too good looking as Donatella.

I am going to skip watching until the DVD comes out.

It's amazing what a story this was watching it play out in real time 20 years ago. I never got the whole Andrew relationship with cute navy boy Jeff Trail. The portrayal and acting in episode one have been entertaining so far. FX has some interesting plot schemes with Feud: Bette and Joan et al...

You guys beat me to the punch. I also enjoyed the first episode, and the gratuitous butt shot of Mr Criss... His performance is eerie, and just GAY enough to give us the flavor of the character. It seems there is more to the story than we know, and it will be interesting to see it play out, and the back story about the continuity of the company after his death. And YES, Donatella "wishes" she looked as good at Penelope Cruz, and gives a femininity to Donatella that she doesnt have in Real life.... And Ricky can just stand there and let us gaze at him. The commericials were numerous and went on for too long, but I was so into the story I didnt care.

I think Criss' performance is pretty brilliant, and layered..... It didnt make me think of his musical roots once.

I'll comment on how layered his performance is when I see more of it. One episode in with heavy editing isn't enough for me, but so far, it's entertaining.

Donatella should be kissing the feet of Ryan Murphy for the casting of Cruz. I'm holding out hope that Ricky Martin can act his way out of a paper bag.

I think in the first episode Criss gave you cunning, disturbed, confused, conflicted and Crazy, so for me that was enough to call it layered. In all his incarnations he made it believable and while you may not have liked his character, it made me want to watch.... Ricky Martin is eye candy, but its a throw away performance.

I take it that the Versace series is being shown on FX?

Yes DVD's (Blu Ray) I like to own what I like and have immediate access to it rather than be subject to the whims of a corporation.

If I like a show or movie enough I will download it, then remove the DRM copy protection. Then it goes onto my little server, which runs Plex Media Server, so I can access it on all of my devices, anywhere in the world. Much more convenient, and somewhat higher quality than DVDs. A little more work upfront of course.

I remember a radio story about 10 years ago where a TV reviewer said that getting a DVR totally changed the way he watched TV. And that he knew how ridiculous it sounded and he would have made fun of himself saying it before he got the DVR, but then found it to be true. When I signed up for one, the cable rep was giving me the spiel, but kept breaking off her 'script' and said "It's just awesome!" several times, with such enthusiasm I knew it was genuine on her part. And it was. To steal his line, it's totally changed the way I watch TV. I tried for years to convince my father, a more avid TV watcher than me, to sign up; and now that he's moved into a retirement community and has a new cable system, he's got one. I look forward (well, kind of) to showing him how it works.

I wish you lived with me. Otherwise, I acknowledge my total unawareness of how it all works. I buy the DVD and have it at my home for whenever I want. Or I got to bring some with me to watch on a DVD/laptop-sort of thingee when I was in the hospital. I thought of bringing some porn I was hooked up to a heart monitor and brain scan sort of thing and I did not want the nurses to be able to see the porn for free.

The only thing I am slightly upset about now is that many companies that produce series or mini-series don't release them on DVD. So you can download on torrent but I have only figured out how to rewatch them on my computer whose screen in nowhere near what my television is. Oh, the sacrifices we make.
