Do any NYers remember Spa 227 in NYC in the late 1990s? It was a men’s gym/spa at 227 E 56th St (same building as the East Side Club, but it was on the 3rd or 4th floor.)

I loved it. Only guys. The owner/manager was such a hot guy (and I, then-20-something, lusted after him).

They had a great steam room, with a hidden area. And the showers were always a cruising ground. One flight below they had some massage rooms.

It closed sometime in the early 2000s, much to my chagrin. It was an era where being gay was still taboo in many cultures and professions, and triple-therapy was just starting to become mainstream, transforming AIDS from inevitable death sentence to something manageable.
