I know of the hot dog ones but on the recent episode of "The Amazing Race" one contestant said that he once ate six pounds of French Fries in eight minutes. Incredible! Six pounds! How is that humanely possible?

Has anyone participated in a food eating contest?

Has anyone participated in a food eating contest?

Here are some facts from Wikipedia about Joey Chestnut, the competitive eater on The Amazing Race who ate all those French Fries:

From the beginning of his competitive eating career in 2005 when Joey Chestnut was a San Jose State University student up to 2017, here are a few competitive eating records he set over the years:

6.3 pounds of asparagus in 11.5 minutes

32.5 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes

182 chicken wings in 30 minutes

103 Krystal burgers (hamburgers) in 8 minutes

10 and a half pounds of macaroni and cheese in 7 minutes

a 5-pound, 17-inch burrito (Iguana's Burritozilla) in 3 minutes, 10 seconds

380 wontons in 8 minutes

42 Queen City Sausage brats in 12 minutes

37 slices of Upper Crust Pizza in 10 minutes

20 half pound Corned Beef sandwiches in 10 minutes

191 chicken wings (7.61 pounds) in 12 minutes

19 boxes (9.5 pounds) of poutine in 10 minutes

...and that doesn't even include his 10 yearly championships of eating the most hot dogs on buns he managed or the times he was bested in the eating contests by other competitive eaters!

Personally, having watched some of these competitions on TV, I agree they are disgusting not only visually but sometimes appear physically dangerous to the competitors health!
