We were hit very hard by Wilma in Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors. There are still people without power, but things are getting better each day as more residences and businesses get back online. Some gay guest houses were severely damaged; some are OK. There was a boil water order for nine days, making it even more difficult for restaurants, but that has been lifted. There are no more gas lines, and there is plenty of food and all the essentials. If you're interested in a particular place, you should call that place for the most current status. Fort Lauderdale beach was closed, but is now open. The Shoppes of Wilton Manors are all operating.

I know there is another thread in this forum with the usual questions on places to stay etc., and I don't want to change the original purpose of that thread. So I'm posting this to list web sites that should answer a lot of questions as to the current conditions, and provide some useful links.

For general information on conditions in the area:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com (the daily paper for South Florida)

http://www.nbc6.net (local NBC)

http://www.local10.com (local ABC)

http://www.wsvn.com (local FOX)

For gay-specific news:

http://www.expressgaynews.com

For phone numbers for gay accomodations and other listings:

http://www.gaysouthflorida.com

http://www.hotspotsmagazine.com

http://www.the411mag.com

I hope the above is helpful to anyone planning to visit here. :)
