Could it be BETTER than chocolate? I just sampled Ben & Jerry's "Pistachio Pistachio" ice cream... . O-My-God!!!

First of all, let me tell you, the color is extraordinary, a jade-shaded white that that would titillate any designer charged with repainting a low-income studio. And then, you taste it: Yummmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! A most delicate, almost perfumed sweetness, coy and spry, but with real substance, and a hint of something heady such as ylang-ylang. Then, as that exotic, creamy waif melts away, you come across the whole pistachios, at least one in ev'ry bite. Dark little gnomes of lightly-roasted, salty charm.

I recall reading somewhere that pistachios do have similar properties to cocoa, in that they stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain. Indeed, this ice-creamy idyll was more pleasure than a girl could hope for!

It's too bad that I am lactose intolerant, and cannot enjoy this ambrosia without consequences. But really, that's a disussion for the fetish forum.

A gelateria recently opened near where I live, featuring tiramisu gelato. I have yet to try it, but it's on my list of things to do that I shouldn't do (which is a longer and more amusing list than the list of things to do that I should do.)

So this is why when I went to the bulk food bins at the local "hippie" grocery there was one bin of most every kind of nut, but at least 5 different flavored pistachio bins.

I agree that pistachios pack a certain punch that other nuts do not, which is why I put them (slivered) into chicken and tuna salad, among other items. Anyone with a Trader Joe's in their area should check out the bagged nut selection and pick up a one pound bag of shelled pistachios.

However, Ms. Trix, for your own specific situation, might I suggest a dairy free, lower in fat, sugar and cholesteral free dairy desert?

They make an entire line of dairy free products and, unlike many other soy based treats, these actually taste like the food you might have eaten as a child. Some of the flavors are available at Whole Foods as well as Trader Joes, but Ralphs, Krogers and larger chains are now carrying (or can carry them in your neighborhood) as well.

RE: Answered Prayers

Thank you Franco, for this recommendation! I shall give these soy-based confections a half-hearted try. Someday. So long as the word "Vegan" does not appear anywhere on the label. (I smoke, I drink, I eat meat. Raw, on occasion, and with carnivorous fervor!)

But I must admit that "healthier" decadence, to my experience, rarely holds a candle to genuine decadence, and it's just as well that I do not indulge in ice cream often. I am quite willing to fart my way through an evening once in a blue moon in order to savour a good ice cream. It makes the experience special, on many levels.

Mind you, I am not against soy... it is splashed on my cereal daily. But some things just lose their luxuriant worth when they're tampered with.
