Folks,

I have a question for those of you familiar with Chicago. I remember that this question came up in one thread, but I couldn't locate it for some reason. I usually stay on Michigan Avenue when visiting Chicago, but this time I was thinking about staying up north in Boystown.

Any nice, large, 4-star hotel recommendations ?

Thank you.

Unless they've built one recently, you won't find a 4-star in Boystown. Stick with the Mag Mile if you want 4-star.

There are a number of lesser hotels in the Boystown area (and all are visitor-friendly), but nothing approaching 4-star.

That would be my recommendation too, but Steven asked about 4-star.

I've recommended the Hawthorne Terrace to several traveling guys and had good feedback. (And I've stayed there myself.) But it ain't 4 stars. It's comfy, it's clean, and everything works (and it's next to a parking garage, which can be important in that neighborhood).

But there's no restaurant or room service. It IS steps from the boystown strip, which can be handy. But it's still a Best Western. For someone with Sheraton/Hyatt/Marriot tastes, it's definitely a step down.

>Last time I stayed there, no high-speed internet.

Thanks, deej. Their website says that the hotel features wireless high-speed internet in "most rooms". Most rooms often means all rooms except mine. I had some bad experiences with wireless internet connections.

In the meantime I've got another recommendation in my mail box about another hotel in Boystown. Thank you for that.

LOL! I sure know how that goes!

Even wired broadband at the best hotels can fail. Just a few weeks ago I was in Seattle at a 4-star hotel downtown and broadband didn't work. When I called to complain, they connected me to the "help desk" (an 800-number call I got charged for) and I just couldn't deal with it.

I did without an internet connection.

Hotels get away with murder when advertising their internet connectivity.

Majestic Hotel, a very nice small boutique hotel, on Brompton Way, 1/2 block from Lakeshore Drive. Brompton is one street south of and running parallel to Addison Street. Easy walk to Halsted Street bars located at Belmont to Roscoe to Addison. Also only $8 to $10 cab ride away from Madrigal's Club in Andersonville area of bars, restaurants. The subway stop at Addison is an easy walk away. I have stayed there about 5 times and find it very convenient to Boystown, much better then staying downtown and taking cab rides.

There is no room service, I believe there is a gym nearby. Not a four star hotel, the suites are good deals. It is always full for Cubs home games.
