I recently read that in England, prostitution is legal. Selling it in the street is Not. Any chance of something like that happening anywhere in the US at the moment?

I remember when I was a lad (70s, sorta) all you had to do to be a fairly succesful escort was be halfway cute and definitely available. Now it is fashionable enough that we want and have enough data available to make a site like this more than feasible. Where are we going next?

Yes, I think we should have an agenda. The Wrelgious Wright have one. "He who fails to plan plans to fail."

So - Where would it be most likely to succeed at this time? What could we do to start the ball rolling?

Bear in mind, I am quite willing to support it for female escorts only at first if I have to. It would be a first step. Of course, another first step could be repealing the sodomy laws. What do you think we need to do first?

And please, we need dreamers, not just lawyers and activists to send in their answers to this.

Think tank, people!

Love, Bilbo

You are correct, as usual. But is there anything we would want to do as a group, or subgroup, about legalizing escorting itself. The spending of time together variety, or course. One might think that I am being a little ahead of my time here, but I have noticed that that type of escorting seems to have been oked around last summer by the city council in Colorado Springs, of all places.

Colorado Springs? Are you sure? The only reason I ask is that a few years ago the city council made all the porno shops remove their doors. A friend of mine had an adult book store but after that, closed up and moved to Denver.

I would be all for legalized prostitution. In fact, if all the uptight politicions who frequent Wet (strip bar in DC) would remember the night before (Wow, was I drunk) maybe this would become a reality.

If prostitution were legal, my business plan of life would make a DRASTIC change! :-)

Yes, dear Regina, I happened to be visiting my old home town (C Spgs), Fort Carson to be exact and noticed this in their paper. Of course it's been several months and

- I am not blessed with a strong memory. and

- It could have changed by now, I suppose, providing I was correct the first time.

I've often wondered why someone doesn't open a gay brothel in the Nevada county where prostitution is legal. If its ok for the gals to be selling their services, why can't the guys? I'm sure such an institution would be a major hit. I suspect there is some provision in the Nevada law preventing this. If so, this might be another good place to start on the road to total decriminalization.

Sex fully legal in Melbourne, Australia

If you're visiting Melbourne, Australia,

escort sex (both agencies and private escorts) and brothel sex are all fully legal.

Escorts can do sex fully legally only at clients

hotels or house, not at the escort's place.

Funny, though, you can advertise sexual services

openly, but sex workers are not allowed to advertise they do massages.

Street sex workers are not legal, but there are

only issues usuakky if a complaint is made.

RE: Sex fully legal in Melbourne, Australia

The state of Texas has a long list of words which only licensed masseurs can use in their advertising, which includes massage, backrub, and all the other obvious words. (The only other people allowed to advertise that they do massage are hairdressers, since their license law (which prdates the massage therapist licensing) allows them to do massages.) So this news from Australia doesn't surprise me, unless you mean that even those with massage licenses (Do they license that there?) cannot combine their ads.

Hi there, no they don't license masseurs here,

but private self-employed escorts are registered,

(free license),

escort agencies and brothels are licensed, but workers in a brothel or escort agencies do not get registered/licensed at all.

A brothel must also have a local council license as well as a sex license, so private escorts can do sex legally at clients premises, but not at the escorts house.

Escorts cannot advertise they are HIV free or mention their race. They can legally advertise that they will have sex with clients, but not

advertise they will provide a massage to the client. Escorts and brothel workers must have a monthly health certificate, but legal self-employed escorts do not have to have a montly health certificate.

That's how its done here!!!

Any thoughts on how we might get such a set of laws passed here? Or is it too tightly tied into how Australia was origionally colonized or some such thing we don't have working for us? How long have these laws been in effect over there and how were they first passed?

Regina and some of you may be pleased to learn that male prostitution is fully legal in Washington, DC.

The DC statute only prohibits females from engaging in prostitution, and says nothing about males. It was written almost a century ago when it didn't occur to legislators that males could be prostitutes, too.

Males cannot be prosecuted for prostitution in DC, and I never heard of any escort being arrested for anything escort-related there. I suspect that laws in some other places also have such loopholes allowing male prostitution. You can read your state law online.

Now Regina, you said: "If prostitution were legal, my business plan of life would make a DRASTIC change!" Inquiring minds want to hear the details! ;-)

"I was born on a thousand acres of Oklahoma land. Nothing grew on a thousand acres, for it was gravel and sand. One day Papa was a-diggin in the field, hoping to find some soil. He dug and he dug and what do you think, Oil, Oil, OIL! The money rolled in and I rolled out with a fortune piled SO high. Washington was my destination and now here is why..."

That's the opening number from Cole Porter's musical (now all male) retitled "Call Me Miss Thing!" And thanks to Bunglepok's selfless inquiry into this topic, I can finish this new musical. Now if I could only find a producer to mount me, er uh, I mean mount this production.

Where is Richard Jay Alexander when you need him! :o

Dragging this up from the archives because I think that it deserves more discussion. Has anybody written your state legislators to push for the legalization of prostitution, since you enjoy it so much? I don't feel like I'm in a good position to do so myself since I'm currently on probation for it. Comments?
