Nothing To Prove

Our dear new friend RockHard has certainly livened things up around here, and I commend him for that. Yet there is one thing he slipped in to a post in another thread that bears some comment, at least in my opinion.

 

He says:

On all the other boards with which I participate, this thread would have been deleted shortly after its arrival on the board. The rules are very strict and the conversations are full of information, humor, and great writing. The "tone" of any forum is set by its leader/owner and the moderators he/she employs. Of course, Daddy is free to delete any of my posts and ban me as well, if and when he feels I've crossed the line. I'm not looking for any special treatment. The man who pays the design and hosting bills has the final say"

 

Yet Daddy rarely gets the final say in anything as we all manage to get our complaints across in one form or another. Just as RockHard is threatening to leave with his footprints here still wet, others complain at length about the management. It has been going on for the entire existence of the board, and I hop on the train once in awhile myself. (just last week!) But for all of his complaints, RockHard spent six determined months figuring out how to log on here so he could join the club!

 

Which leads to my point: The management of this site has never been better! Cooper and Barry have proven to be everything we could ask of moderators, especially volunteer ones. The tone of debate here has indeed become more civilized, partly because Daddy cut a couple of nasty people off, and partly because the other site provides an outlet for venting that lets the nastier stuff get posted there. Even the remaining mean girls tone it down a bit now. That raises the level of civility for everybody.

 

I wouldn't want Daddy's job even though he is probably having more fun with it than we think. And, if I were a moderator, I would delete more stuff than gets deleted now. But no one is ever going to be completely satisfied. Too many people with lots of individual opinions, lots of egos too. But I can't see where Daddy needs to prove anything as increased civility here speaks for itself.

 

So I want to thank Cooper, Barry and Daddy. I have been able to get a lot of enjoyment out of this site and meet some very nice people. It is interesting to note that there has never been a food fight when Hoovilleans sit down to dinner together. When we think about it, we should realize that we have a pretty good thing going here.

Thank you for taking my quote seriously, Lucky, but I could do without some more mischaracterizations. There was no "threatening" anyone. I was just stating a fact as it pertains to the quality use of my time.

 

Just because it took me six months to register doesn't mean Daddy owns me or my choices. There is no service business that owns its customers, even though hairdressers behave otherwise, sometimes.

There's very good financial incentive to make this a better place. Porn isn't diminishing and AIDS isn't going away. Quality male companionship is more in-demand than ever. The future forecast looks sunny to me.

 

It's true you can't please all the people all the time but many other forums with much stricter enforcement of the rules are thriving, in spite of the few who bitch and complain about being edited and/or banned. And their advertising revenue keeps growing. The few guys who insist on asking to be banned would be replaced by guys more willing to register and who want to participate with fun, loving men full of information and humor worth sharing. More discipline screams WIN-WIN to me. Who knows, some of us could find husbands here and this place could give Gaydar a run for its money. We can call it "Daddy'sMatch.com"

 

Daddy's correspondence with me has been nothing but professional. His professionalism and some of the notes he wrote during the temporary shut-down led me to believe he's a guy in mourning and in need of support. Since I assume HooBoy was the founder, I also assume Daddy is the inheritor. In the event that Daddy might be overwhelmed by it all, I thought I would lend him some of my businessman's perspective. Another reason why I'm here. He asked me for suggestions and I'm putting stuff out there.

 

The comment you called "threatening" is my way of saying, "Look, Daddy, now is the time to move forward. Carpe diem!"

 

Of course I'd like to stay. Judging by all the private messages I received, I can see there's a unique source of great guys here. It's time to add more. I've always believed this was a place with terrific potential for fun. But, constantly fighting off bullies or self-hating queens is no fun. No fun at all.

 

And men like me won't tolerate such bullshit, at least not for long. Our time and energy is just too, too valuable.

 

Nothing against Barry and Cooper but, before we light any cake in a celebratory frenzy, I think there's still work to be done.

I too have spent more than one post (and numerous private emails to admin) suggesting, complaining, bemoaning and otherwise generally making a statement of dissatisfaction. I guess I would not be the only one. For all of the grief I cause Daddy and the moderators, I would still say they do a much better job than most (not kissing up, just fact).

 

And as newbie's quickly learn around here, there will always be one or two hypocrite monitors who will resurrect previous statements to try and embarrass anyone they don't like.

 

But as for the newest arrival to our sandbox, I am more than willing to extend him some time. We all learn sooner or later, that the change that comes to this playground , sometimes comes in painstakingly small increments. While we might not like everything , there is plenty here to like and well worth fighting to improve.

 

I say Rockhard is more of a kindred spirit than not (although I am surely not in his tax bracket), x( and we all make occasional ultimatums in one way or another, whether here or in real life, which we don't always keep.

 

When we have finally had enough we can exit quietly without fanfare, which I hope in Rockhard's case, will not be for some time to come.

I don't understand what you guys are bitching about or what you think is wrong with this place. It's almost as if you only want people that are just like you or agree with everything you say to post here and anyone with a different viewpoint should be banned.

The discipline has been increased here, that was part of the reason for the shut down, and there have been several people banned, yet it doesn't seem to have drawn in all those "fun loving men full of information and humor", in fact, it seems to have run off a multitude of the old posters that were considered regulars.

I never have been able to figure out why, when someone doesn't like another poster, they label them a "self-hating queen", what makes them self-hating, is it because they don't like you and that fact is beyond you comprehension.
