I had a revelation of sorts today about escorts and escorting. I realized that there's a pretty wide range of reasons why escorts escort. Lots of different motivations. There are the more-or-less full-timers, the guys who rely on escorting for a majority of their income. On the other end of the spectrum are the real part-timers, the guys who'll make a booking relatively infrequently, when the mood strikes, and perhaps only with certain guys. The money part of it may be of absolutely no consequence or concern to them.

This may not be rocket science, but it helps to explain the different interest and motivation levels of different escorts. Some have commented here that getting certain escorts to reply to their e-mails and phone calls is like pulling teeth. Well, some of them just don't give a rat's ass. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the way it is.

I've been looking for an escort to join me on a vacation lasting several days. The responses I've received have been varied, to put it mildly. Some guys have been genuinely excited about the opportunity, while others have shown the enthusiasm of a dish towel. Sometimes it amazes me. How many of us have a chance to make ~ a grand a day by taking a nice vacation? Well I can understand it now better based on what I said earlier.

I agree with your observations with one exception: a trip with a client is not a "paid vacation" for an escort because he is working. I know that when a client developes a good relationship with an escort (that may even include a friendship outside of the hiring situation), it's tempting to forget that the escort is actually working while they are with you. But as long as a trip involves the exchange of money for companionship, it really isn't a vacation for the escort because he has a defined role.

I'm sure the offer is even less attractive to many escorts if they've never even met the client in question before. Would any of us clients want to commit to taking a vacation with someone we never met? I know I wouldn't. Add to that the complications of one party "owing something" to the other because he's being paid to be there and you have the potential for a very unpleasant trip unless there is proper mutual respect between the client and escort.

The only similar situation I once faced was the prospect of a European "vacation" with a former boss that would have involved spending a lot of time with him traveling around a certain country to visit business interests. Even though I liked the idea of a free trip to Europe during which I would be paid for my working hours, I didn't view the offer as a vacation but rather an offer to travel for work -- and I wouldn't have even had to have had sex with the guy.

You make some valid points Guy. I didn't mean to make less of the fact that these are basically business transactions, and that the escort is being compensated to provide a service.

I treat my companion well, with respect (and expect the same in return), and provide an enjoyable experience for the both of us. Moreover I know that personally I am not "demanding" when it comes to intimate matters. Thus I feel its a pretty nice deal for the 'scort, your points notwithstanding.

What a load of bullshit....you're fucking someone....how is that "work"....or is pretending to be into the client the work part?

You have a point, but.....let's not stereotype clients any more than we would want to stereotype escorts. Clients, who come in all shapes, sizes, and ages, book for all kinds of reasons, not just because they're "bald, middle aged."

You could try to make your argument about almost any kind of work. Say someone enjoys cooking. If that person gets a job as a cook/chef, is that person not working because he's doing something he likes to do anyway? Or how about people who enjoy writing computer programs? (Believe me, I know some people who like this a lot.) If they are employed as a programmer, are they not working? A lawyer who enjoys debating is not working while he's presenting a case in court because he likes the activity anyway?

I would say that it isn't work for an escort to travel with someone and have sex with that person repeatedly if the escort would have chosen that person and that location to have sex anyway, and if the escort only felt compelled to have sex when he actually felt like it. Otherwise it's work. It may be a more enjoyable line of work than most for those who find pleasure in having sex and spending lots of time with a wide range of individuals, but it's still work.

You are correct, all of your examples would be working, but they would also have to have years of education to get the privilege of enjoying their work. Prostitutes don't have to go to school to learn how to enjoy their work, they just have to learn how to fake enjoying it.

But they do choose to go with the person and to have sex with them, no one is holding a gun to their head, so they have to fuck some poor slob repeatedly, so what, they get a great trip and money out of the deal, I hardly call that work.

Hey MBarz, I have to disagree with you here somewhat. Think of it this way - think of some of your least favorite posters here, and imagine that their physical appearance is as dreadful as their personality, which is usually the case.

Now imagine that you have to spend a whole weekend with them travelling - sitting next to them chatting on an airplane; laughing at their dumb jokes; pretending that their self-absorbed, petty dribble is interesting; dining with them 3 times a day while they stuff their fat faces full of food; laying by the pool with them with their big white belly shaking; visiting tourist sites and being subjected to their trite observations; not having virutally a second of time alone (i.e., away from the client).

And all of that is BESIDES the sex obligation, which speaks for itself. Honestly, I think the least unpleasant part of such a trip may be the sex. It's the constant providing of artificial companionship that would be enough to drive any decent, rational person to suicide.

An escort recently wrote here that the difference between an escort-client relationship and an boyfriend-boyfriend relationship is that the escort is required to always focus on the client and the client's happiness and desires, whereas normal relationships are a give-and-take. I think that's true (it's one of the principal things I like about hiring hookers).

That means that, for an escort, it means spending a weekend (or, God forbid, longer) pretending to find the clients interesting and fun and likeable and attractive and catering to all of their desires. Put another way, it's like having to be an escort here and write a Hooboy post - but one that goes on continuously, for an entire weekend.

If you think about some of the creatures who populate this forum - and, I'd submit, they are quite representative of clients who hire for weekend travel (i.e, the ones who want a "pretend boyfriend") - it's hard not to conclude that travelling with such a client is not just work, but some of the most unimaginably unpleasant work that exists.

Pick your favorite destination - London, Rio, Paris, the Carribean? As nice as it might be, are you eager to go there if it means have to hang on to and be with and cater to and listen to and laugh with and show affection to JT Brooklyn or BigGuy or Chuck etc. etc. for the whole weekend?

Sounds like work to me, to put it mildly.

Well Doug, when you put it in those terms....I have to agree....it's work.

Christ, a weekend with "jt" "booklyn".....I'd rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my fingernails.

I have never had a vacation with a client that was not extremely nice to me. But that in no way makes it not work. As others have said, the constant companionship can wear a boy out. From the moment you get up and have breakfast you are at their beck and call for what they want to do. Even things you enjoy doing can be completely different when you are with a client.

For example, if you go to a nightclub with a client. Normally I would be dancing, drinking, having a jolly time and chatting up all sorts of people all night. Making friends, flirting with cute boys. That's what I do in a club. But with a client I have to give them my constant attention. Dance when they want to dance, stand next to them if they just want to drink, whatever they desire. So just cause I'm in a club, that doesn't mean I'm having fun.

A vacation is when you go away and are free to do exactly what you wish.

"Slavery?"

I treat the guys I hire well. They get plenty of sleep, can work out if they like, eat well. They're not machines, they're human beings.

It almost sounds like, if you really don't enjoy these things, you should find another line of work.

RE: Different Strokes for Different cocks

Hey skywalker,

Something else that I wanted to add is that there are different types of escorts.

Many of my friends are escorts and we often joke about how different our "talents" are.

There are escorts that are the "sprinters" and will rock your world in one hour. The will fuck you upside down, backwards, while you are on your hands, your feet and our of your mind... When the hour ends and you don't even remember your name, the envelope is gone, the hunk is gone and all you can think before falling into a much needed deep sleep is: "Whoa!"

The are escorts that are "Middle distance dinners". They will pick you up, show you what amazing sex is all about... but just a tease. They will take you out, and choose the most sofisticated places, dishes, wines, magic moments. They will stay absolutely focused in you, and how fascinating you are... (Even if you didn't know that before) and after that amazing dinner, they will provide the most intimate, romantic "dessert" that you could imagine. After they are gone, you are left dreaming of romance, and that magic sparkle of recognition between people that don't know each other.

And of course, there are the "Travelling marathoners". These guys will little by little allow you built an absolute comfort around them. With them, you don't need to pretend, or try to please, or even talk; you know that being side by side in silence you both know what you are thinking of. (And if he is good, it is pretty possible that you do.) You can talk about your life, your past, your dreams and plans and he will do the same. You will learn about both your body rythms and will get in synch if you are together long enough. And after they are gone, even if you spring a boner every time you think of them, you think about them more the way you would think of family: You are that intimate and familiar with them.

I know a few marathoners that SUCK at one hours... I know the best sprinters that would make you puke after three hours together... And sure, there are a few escorts that are pretty versatile and can switch back and forth.

And normally an escort -even if he doesn't think in these terms- is pretty aware of what kind of appointment is better for him. So don't take it personally. It is better to thank him that he is not tempted to be with you for a long period just because of the good money. (You both would regret it if he did.)

And again, sorry for the long post; I always sit down and post only when I am in a rush, thinking it will make me write less... the only result being my grammar getting even worse. :p

Happy travelling, anyway! ;-)

Skywalker - He didn't say he didn't enjoy doing these things. He said that when he is on the clock you and what you want to do come first and his normal inclinations are not followed if they conflict with yours. That's part of the job. An enjoyable part of an enjoyable job, but it is a job, not a vacation. Have you ever told one of the escorts you're travelling with to take the lead and that you want to do whatever they want to do for the next two hours? Even then - it's a bit like babysitting. You loved your little brother, if you had one, I'd bet. But did you want him tagging along with you everywhere? Much less you having to tag along with him all the time? And be reasonably responsible for him?

On another thread I posted some comments that actually fit better on this thread. My three categories don't exactly dovetail with Juan's but there are similarities. I stated:

During the the last 3 1/2 years that I have been hiring escorts I have come to the conclusion that the "vast majority" (not all) of the guys I have hired fit into one of three general categoeies:

1. Very young, very good looking, very well built guys with minimal intelligence and education who have found, what they think is an easy way to make some money. They may or may not be supporting a durg habit. Generally these guys are great to look at BUT don't have much else to offer. Frequently they don't even PLAY very well. They don't usually stick around very long.

2. A group of guys of various ages who use escorting to support themselves while pursuing an education or a career in a difficult field, ie. acting. These guys may or may not be outstanding escorts depending on their individual personalities. Todd Dillon in L.A. fit into this category and god damn he was INCREDIBLE. Though some of you are going to have a shit fit over this next name I sincerely feel that Scott Adler fits here. He has a fun personality, a great body and he plays extremely well. The one drawback to these guys is that they don't usually escort for an extended period of time.

3. A group of guys who are what I consider the "true professionals". These guys are frequently well educated and have had other occupations or professions. They tend to be older -- in their late twenties, thirties or even forties. Being openly gay they have decided that they want lots of sex, enjoy meeting different people and like the money. They are able to relate to an wide variety of people and quickly develop a regular clientele. Steven Kesslar in San Francisco/Portland and Rod Hagen in L.A. fit well into this category. I also have a feeling, though I have never met these two guys, that Juan in Vancouver and Rick Munroe in New York are also excellent examples. These are the guys who are able to make sexual dreams and fantasies come true. God damn they are a joy.
