There's little denying Capote is thusfar the years best film. However for some brilliant fun, see Serenity--Whedon at his best. All sorts of genre "masters" could learn from Joss's sense of timing and plot distillation skills. Have fun.

Firefly is a great weekly series so I expect the moview to be good also. However, I will probably wait until its out on DVD. Thanks for the heads up.

There are a couple of other good movies out there now...

Junebug and Forty Shades Of Blue. They're both small independent

films about family. Amy Adams in Junebug and Dina Korzun in

Forty Shades are great.

 

Finally, some movies worth seeing.

Junebug shocked me. It's a very difficult film to do: to make the left and right coast audiences smile at, rather than laugh at, religious southerners. It works, it's damn good.

 

Haven't seen the other one you mentioned.

What about "A History of Violence"? It is certainly getting good reviews in the mainstream press. Have also read good things about how "Brokeback Mountain" is doing at the festivals. EWeekly said that it could be the movie of the year???

As for quirky, independants...I watched "Strait-Jacket" (No, not the Joan Crawford ass murderer one) the other night and laughed outloud at some parts. Very weel done, I thought. Campy, but funny.

HOViolence is very good. As I said Capote is the best so far, Brokeback or Goodnight and Goodluck may turn out even better.

 

Bobby, I'm not closeted--I've made many posts about the wonderfulness of the first 5 seasons of Buffy.

Just saw Serenity last night. Why didn't you mention what a total hunkfest it is? Every man on that ship's crew is a feast for the eyes, and each of the four is a bit different so as to appeal to slightly different tastes, but they are all hunks. Too bad there is so little flesh exposure, but the clothes are tight enough, the arms are sleek and muscular enough, and we do get to see front upper torso on the male lead and a beautiful glimpse of muscular back on another. For prettiest male in the cast, I would have to nominate Sean Maher. Wow! Even if one is not a sci-fi fan, the eye candy is worth the price of admission.
