Other than asking one of the kids to pose for nudie pics, can any of the lawyers here tell me what was illegal here?

BETHLEHEM -- A Southern Lehigh High School teacher paid several teenagers extra money for working in various states of undress at his city home, police said.

Keith L. Snyder, 53, was arrested Thursday on charges of criminal solicitation, corruption of minors and tampering with physical evidence. He was arraigned before District Judge James Narlesky and released after posting 10 percent of $10,000 bail.

School administrators could not be reached late Thursday afternoon to determine whether Snyder remains employed as a social studies teacher with the Southern Lehigh School District.

As a condition of his release, Snyder was ordered to have no contact with the victims, schools or any juveniles.

Police said Snyder advertised the work to students he taught and through word of mouth at the Upper Saucon Township school from September 2003 through February 2005. The boys performed yardwork and other chores for a salary at his home in the 500 block of Melrose Avenue, Bethlehem, court records say.

But Snyder also used a "tip scale," giving the students extra money for working in various states of undress, police said. Nine boys, who are now ages 16 to 18, told police Snyder offered more pay based on clothing.

Snyder offered $2 to $10 extra for boys who worked shirtless or in Spandex, a Speedo, a thong or a singlet -- a wrestling uniform, court records say. Snyder paid a higher tip for workers who stayed undressed longer, police said.

Several of the boys told police that Snyder paid them extra for working shirtless; one wore a Speedo, and two others did not participate in the tip scale, court records say.

Snyder also took photographs of the students while they worked at his home, police said. One boy told police Snyder asked to take nude photos of him. When the boy declined, Snyder persisted and offered money or gifts, police said.

Snyder displayed many photo collages of students around his home and told the boys that photography was one of his hobbies, court records say.

A search of Snyder's home revealed shredded photographs showing a young male posing and with more clothing being removed in each picture, records say.

When investigators served the search warrant, Snyder met them at the door with a paper indicating he has an attorney regarding the incidents, police said. Snyder's actions indicate he was aware of the investigation and destroyed photographs to hinder the investigation, police said.

Snyder did not return a phone call for comment.
