One More Thing - Ruth Moving Out (And The Floor Plan!)

I REALLY need to stop posting as the words "obsessed" and fanatical" won't be doing me any justice. ;) I missed why Ruth had to move out. Wasn't the place big enough for her to be there? After David took the place off the market and after she decided she wouldn't be moving in with George why didn't she just stay in the house? After all was said and done did she just say "the hell with it" and move in with Miss Bates and Ruth's sister?

And I have a stupid confession to make. It wasn't until this last season that I discovered the kitchen and dining area were on the second floor and not the first! I thought the funeral home, kitchen and dining area were floor one and living quarters were on floor two. Please feel free to say "duh" to me.

I am a self destructive fool

I just started to watch the last scene again and I got as far as Nate saying, "You can't take a picture of this. This is already gone." and I started to cry.

As Ruth was talking to Claire I think I have made a realization in my life ... I am Ruth ... and I feel I am too young to connect with her. You may find this funny or sad. I find it both funny and sad and I think I just saved a bunch of $$ on months of therapy. I am Ruth Fisher! Good lord. I need help (and a trip to Vegas). I am now going to hit the play button, watch the rest and cry, and stop posting as I have made this thread into a blog of my blurred line between reality and TV. I am a crazy person.

Never mind, I didn't notice the heading "The Orbits from HBO", I was just going to ask where you found them.

I always related the most to Brenda, which can kind of scare you too, she had fucked up parents, loved her younger brother completely, and was emotionally reserved. Most people thought she was a bitch or just plain crazy, but all she really wanted was someone she could trust. I saw so much of myself in her it's scary. I'm really going to miss this show.

I haven't had such a powerful emotional reaction to anything in recent memory like I had to the SFU finale.....

I'm really gonna miss this series......I think it's going to be a long time before anything on TV portrays a same-sex relationship as realistic, nuanced, and affirming as that between Keith and David. Too bad this series didn't get the viewership numbers like "The Sopranos" or I think the gay rights cause would have a leg up.

And, coming from a deeply dysfunctional family myself, I feel that what was so endearing and moving about the Fisher family was that they remained very close to each other to the end despite their various neuroses. That's what real "family values" should be all about.

RE: One More Thing - Claire's Car

Minor point on Claire and cars. A bit hypocritical to rant about SUV's when you're driving a monstrous old gas guzzling Cadillac hearse, don't you think?

I kind of wish they had introduced Ted sooner in the season. He was a neat character and great eye candy. His nude scene and posing in bed made my day. Also, during the run of the show it seems like the only characters to ever speak about politics and social issues were fairly liberal. It was nice that they introduced a conservative, republican, corporate lawyer (loved the polo shirt at Brenda's house) and they made him a really nice guy.

I've also been savoring the too few, too brief shirtless scenes for Keith. Somewhere in the late first or early second season they have him jump out of bed in well-packed white jockey shorts, but it never got any better than that. I was pleased with Keith and David's in-bed scene in the last show.

I watched the first season recently and realized how much I missed Brenda. In the first shows Brenda was incredibly bright and quick. They wrote her as the grown prodigy, and she was often mentally one step ahead of those around her. Brenda was quite a bit of a manipulator too. In later seasons I was disappointed to see her turned into a more morose self-absorbed character.

I didn't see two shows in the middle of the season, and I didn't seem to miss anything. I would have liked to see the character and plot resolution developed over a longer period of time. As much as I loved the logical, satisfying closure for all of the characters the last episode seemed to move from sad chaos to happy endings much too quickly for me. I think they could have spread the resolution stories out over three or four episodes.

I don't think I was able to breathe or blink for Claire's entire drive sequence. Going through eighty years of conclusions was so clever. So often Hollywood relies on "the future's an open book" devices. Giving us closure was a nice change, particularly after a series overloaded with trouble and conflict.

Here I am lamenting how much I adored this show and I have to admit I missed an entire season. I think I skipped the 3rd. I did catch up though. The show did loose me at one point but then I was sucked right back in.

Indeed! That family had so much damage that I think almost anyone could relate with at least one aspect of the Fisher family.

I did. I mentioned that above. I think Anthony ended up with a boyfriend and the older brother was with a woman and child(ren). I think she was also pregnant as well?

RE: One More Thing - Claire's Car

Yes,

She was driving a Prius, an amazing hybrid.

I thought that was the best way to show her driving into the future.

And if you have every driven one of those, you know that it is the smoothest drive that you can imagine. No noise, no mess... Just the way life should be.

The most amazing thing for me was when Nate urged Claire to go to NY even if she didnt have a job.

"All my life I was running away from my fears, and see where it got me." He said to her.

I just thought that it was amazing how they used a whole five years to convey such a wise message.

JUST GO FOR IT!

Whatever you have been dreaming to do... Just do it. because you ARE ready now.

RE: Dead Keith

As an avid viewer of this particular during the past five years, I applaud the manner in which the director, producer, etc. brought it to its end. ...very artistic and well-structured as the previous weeks' segments.

While I watched the Mother, last Sunday, I thought: what an insane and pathetic woman and how did I manage to stomach her during these five years of our encounter. In fact there was so much insanity in the principal familes that it at times left me baffled as to its reality, but all in all-- in the final analysis-- I must have liked the show because I did not miss a week of any of its segements. Thanks and hats off to HBO!!!!!

>Was Claire's car a hybrid gas/electric? Was that the show's

I deleted what I'd written once I read what others had written oh, so well, about the auto and its significance.

Why does someone not start a separate thread of pure show analysis? One early morning I arose and went to one of those sites where you write on the spot and began a sexy poem which I wanted others to add to....Guys, my screen was in roaring flames when we all finished.....

This would be something different; it would be collaborative analysis!

When I saw him stroll across the room with his cute tush-- I said to myself: turn around so that I can service you, man! Although we are different politically-- I found this guy to be quite physically attractive, with as well as without attire! :9

RE: The last waltz

>Keith (although already dead) did return to escort David to the other side

That was very clear -- and made me take in a sharp breath. (I was doing that a lot during the last 10 minutes.) It was just so RIGHT.

RE: Six Feet Under- Thanks VDN`

First off, thank you for a thread that is such a relief from the others most recently posted on this site. It was a great topic, and the fascinating thing was to read everyone's different interpretations and different sightings while watching the same scenes.

Some day, I hope to get to see the episode again, when it EVER hits HBO on demand, as I will keep all of these observations in mind, the next time I see it. Just one example would be the comment about Claire dying without being able to see because she was afflicted with cataracts, as I didn't notice that, but that would be in keeping with the whole "viewing life thru a lens" theme, as who could forget that her first great commercial success was the collage photo she took of herself lying on the floor with her eyes covered by eyes that she cut from a photo!

This was a very good thread, and I have so immensely enjoyed it, which is a lot more than I can say about any other thread I've read on this site in the last 5 months.

As strange as this may seem, I agree with you, this is a very good thread, civil and no insults. Just an interesting discussion about a show we all liked. I'll be damned, miracles do happen.

THANKS VHAWK for the kind subject line. I just want to thank everyone for putting up with my middle school level reaction and posting and re-posting. I guess I was so numb to the CRAP on TV (besides LOST of course) that the last SFU scene took me off guard.

TOTALLY agree! This is the kind of thread I missed in the lounge. Plus the fact that out of all of the other forums I may drop into this is the one where so many different perspectives are shared. I have been guilty myself of being very catty and down right stupid in some threads of late. Maybe it took seeing so many people kick it within an 8 minute time span to get people being polite again.

Because of the observations posted in this thread I went back and watched it over and over to capture and see what was mentioned here. Plus the fact that after that ended I REALLY needed someone to talk to and I knew there was an awesome community here at M4M.

I am also so pleasantly pleased that out of this thread I have gained a new friend. Yes mbarz, miracles do happen and they don't have to come in the form of a miracle bra or a thigh ointment. You are a very good egg mbarz! I am glad we were able to connect.

I probably would have missed the episode if you hadn't posted here, so THANKS!

This one single episode convinced me I really need Tivo. I've been on the fence wondering if I'd really use it, but this series (and its ending) convinced me it's worth recording the few good TV shows so you have something to watch the rest of the time.

I have my cable company's version and it is my new lover. I don't know how I lived without it. It falls under necessity.
