Has anybody stayed at this gay resort in St. Petersburg, Florida? Is it nice, clean, and worth staying there? It does not appear to be on the beach but does seem to have a nice pool. There's apparently several bars and at least one with dancers -- don't know how much they strip though. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experiences at this gay hotel complex. I know there's the Parliament House in Orlando, but that's kind of "sleazy" IMHO, and so I was wondering how the SunCoast compares.

I have never stayed there, but have visited several times since is is local to me. "Sleazy" is a good word to discribe Suncoast Resort also. I have been to Parliament House once and it looked much better than Suncoast Resort. It is a very tired looking physical plant that has had nothing more than very simple improvements if any over the years. All though the place will pack out, sometimes in the summer it is not uncommon to find as many as 2000+ there for the Sunday afternoon T-Dance. Very mixed crowd, very mixed!

I have been to Suncoast Resort. I found it comparable to the Parliament House in Orlando. I have not stayed there, as I used to live in St. Petersburg and when I go there I stay with friends. Friends of mine have recently gone/stayed there for the annual Bear weekend activities and enjoyed it-no complaints.

The Suncoast Resort is very close to St. Pete and Pass'grill Beaches. There is just a causeway in between. The area immediately around the Suncoast Resort is OK and major artery to go across the Skyway Bridge to Bradenton/Sarasota and to Causeway past Eckerd College to St. Pete Beach. However, the about 30 blocks north of this area is a very rough inner city area until reach Central Avenue.

stayed at the suncoast for the Bears event in May. IMHO it is notthe sort of place you would want to consider for a vacation. I've stayed at Parliament House in Orlando and find the two to b comparable ... balcony cruising, etc. ... but at least the P House has sheets that fit the bed ... I kid you not, they had no king sized sheets so I ended up buying my own at Walmart ... all the housekeepers were tickled ...

as for the guest mix, sunday is their big day with an enormous t dance. staff was by and large helpful esp. in the small dining room. place has a mix of bars ... piano lounge, leather bar, pool/tiki bars.

I've stayed at the Suncoast Resort several times although not recently and found it to be OK. Like the Parliament House in Orlando. The pool is not great (unless they have put a new one in the last 3 years) and I didn't go in it. It is a very old hotel for Florida and shows it but then it is not very expensive and you know that the clientele is mostly gay so that has its advantages. It is safe though and I had no qualms about leaving my expensive automobile in their parking lot as there was good security on the property 24/7.

I'm going to be in St. Pete on a business trip. From all the comments above, the SunCoast Resort does not sound like the place to be for that. I need a little more "luxury", even if it is gay. However, I was wondering if escorts frequent any of the bars there??? I can always drop by for a look :-)

I very much doubt you will have any luck hooking up with escorts at the gay bars in St Pete's including the Sun Resort. With the Internet these days, escorts don't want to waste their time in bars unless you are talking hustler bars and those boys are not escorts but hustlers (there is a difference!). Have a fun trip.

I have stayed at the Sun Coast twice. That was about 3 years ago. Each time it was the host hotel for an event I was attending. I second the comments that have already been posted. The rooms are very seedy, sleazy and run down. The property used to be a Holiday Inn and the rooms are dilapidated. The new owners have spent nothing on room renovation, although it appears they have worked on the grounds, bars and restaurants somewhat. Having said this, the interior grounds can be quite pleasant, sporting several bars, shops and even a volleyball court (with associated eye candy when in use). The bars have different themes: piano, poolside tiki, disco, etc. If you don’t like one you can just stroll over to one of the others. The restaurant is OK but nothing special. The pool is small. There is no hot tub. On Sunday afternoons they host a Tea Dance that has an unbelievable crowd of eye candy. We finally moved our yearly event to a different venue since our members complained so much about the quality of the rooms. As a previous poster stated, there can be a lot of balcony cruising, etc., that I thought got kind of creepy at times, but I never felt unsafe. Each night I stayed there my phone rang with a mystery caller on the other end looking to hook up. The others attending the event had the same experience… so I guess he was calling all the rooms and not just stalking hot old me :). All in all, it would definitely be a pleasant place to visit for an evening or afternoon since the different bars and shops are nice, interesting, fun, safe and friendly, and the patrons and workers are pleasant. There was good security on sight and I never felt unsafe. My only complaint is with the quality of the rooms. They do have some more expensive suites that may have been remodeled - I’m not sure. As far as hooking up with working boys, I didn’t get the impression that any hang out there, unfortunately (and I was keeping my eyes and ears open :-)).

Thanks for the great comments. I have definitely decided to go more "up-scale" with another hotel in downtown St. Pete -- quality of room is a definite must for me.

Insofar as working boys are concerned, I had hoped there would be a good place to meet some, but it seems the Internet is still the place to be -- at least insofar as St. Pete is concerned. I just haven't seen much on the escort sites that are very appealing in St. Pete (men4rentnow, americanmale, executive escorts, rentboy). It seems the pickings are pretty slim -- and not in a good way :( I've tried emailing some who had promise (a little older than "twink" status but not muscular or over 30), but so far they're pretty non-responsive or the email is bounced back. Since I'll be at a large hotel, the Renaissance Vinoy, maybe the eye candy will be good there.
