Had a chance to visit this area recently, and was interested to see or experience some of what is available and advertised. Unfortunately few members here write about this large area, and there are hardly any reviews ever posted, so I thought it would be good to mention some notable sources and sites -- and places to possibly avoid.

Best sites I found for real and legitimate escorts in this area were:

Rentmen.com [mostly has European/American escorts currently visiting China and especially Hong Kong, but at least you see who it is, and in 95% of the cases, the information is accurate]

Planet Romeo (www.planetromeo) has an extensive and updated daily page reference to escorts and masseurs in China. Many visiting working men from Europe/US are familiar with this more European and world-wide site and put it to good use.

For relaxing:

http://www.travelgayasia.com/ This site is terrific, seems to be constantly updated for major cities. I was in need of a good massage (not a rub and tug session) and found this site for Hong Kong massage spas (which there are many exclusively for gay men). My personal recommendation is for Spa 17 [http://www.spa17hk.com/] if you can book their master-masseur, Stanley.

This site gives you current places for spa treatments, saunas, bars etc. Many people make comments on the pros and cons of the advertisers and so it is constantly updated.

To avoid (except for eyeing for eye-candy)::

I learned the hard way the lesson of trusting sites that are operated from the Mainland (with branch offices in Hong Kong, for instance). They depend on photo models from throughout China who they lure to the cities for the promise of quick money. Many are definitely not escorts nor even trained in the bare minimum aspects of it; most have no knowledge whatsoever of any language except Mandarin (and only few would know Cantonese). They are also masters of "bait an switch" -- you make a booking for one guy and another guy from the site shows up at your door. So use with extreme caution:

http://www.hkgaystar.com/

http://www.chinagayescort.com/index.php?c=msg&ts=aboutus&

http://www.lucas1069.com/

One word of caution from the above three (who as you can see, use or interchange the same models' photos) -- men from the mainland cannot travel freely to Hong Kong or Macau, but can come into these special areas for a limited time (many stay just across the border); once they enter, they can only stay so many days before they have to leave. The roster of "who's available" changes daily because of that.

In meeting them, I was told by a local man "Never give them your hotel room number! Always insist to meet them in the lobby." Reason is that once they have the hotel room, they can shake you down if you decide not to pay. If you see the wrong man appears in the reception area, you simply walk away. I was awaiting one escort from one of these agencies, and his look was so odd -- hotel reception would not let him come up (and I had hired others from PlanetRomeo who came to the room without a problem!)

On language, people in Hong Kong and Macau have a good to very good understanding of English; Mainlanders, much much less. If someone is well-educated, his English is fine but finding such a man also escorting is rare; you can find "users" on Planet Romeo who are on the fringe, local men who have excellent English (and often interested in hooking up with Europeans) seeking to know other gay men, and many of them are more than happy to share info about their area.

I visited Beijing in October. After a day on the Great Wall, our tour operator allowed for having masseurs come to the rooms. The price was ridiculously cheap and I opted for a one hour massage. I am not sure the masseur was professionally trained and I was told to keep my underwear on at all times. I had a great massage all the same but of course no happy ending. The masseur spoke only Mandarin. To communicate I spoke into his smart phone that provided translation. Things went well.

In China, keeping underware and having no happy ending just indicate the masseur is professionally trained. :)

Very recently, the Google Translate's ban in mainland China has been cancelled, so you can use yours next time.

When I was living in HK, I used to hire the guys via local agencies, usually with great successes, but there were issues in some cases, like the wrong guy turning up at my apartment.

After a while I found it much cheaper to hire directly the guys listed here: gayHK.com

As long as you can text them in English, they will use google translate to figure out what you want and will turn up at your place and usually deliver. If they don't, well it isn't that expensive, so you haven't lost that much. Then you can build a relationship with those that always perform and keep them as regular.

What are the going rates these days in HK?

hoho,Jimmy, the last one, is still very active in mainland china and go to hk regularly.

Oh wow, don't mean to be a spoiler but I would never use any agencies, especially http://www.chinagayescort.com

It is essentially just answering the phone, hook you up with an independent escort that you can already directly contact, and charge you a mark up for their "services" that can sometimes double what you should be paying.

This is how they work, at least in Hong Kong - most of the guys you see on the pages are Mainland Chinese men. They can only stay in Hong Kong on a visa for usually no more than 2 weeks at a time. They are therefore highly mobile and would like to take as many clients as possible during their stay.

Most of them advertise independently in here: http://www.gayhk.com , which is fill with banner ads that will lead you to their pages where they show their photos and contact info. They are also very active on any number of online dating apps like Grindr, etc., I will teach you how to find them there below.

So essentially the "agencies" are adding no value at all. The worst part though is that the photos and info are misleading, as many of the escorts being shown on the pages are actually not there or no longer working or simply just other people's photos. It gives the impression that they have many choices, but in reality only a handful are actually in town (because of the mobile nature of their stays). So when you call they will try to talk you into hiring the ones that are actually there and the ones that are more cooperative with them.

The only benefit they provide is probably translation, as this site is obviously catering to non-Chinese speakers. No locals or other regional Chinese would ever use this one. But I know many experienced travellers have been able to negotiate using online translation and texting.

You can find out how much this site will ask, and compare that to the going rate of an incall as low as HK$800 to maybe up to HK$1,200-1,500 if you contact them directly. A note though - I won't pay anything more than HK$1,000, as their fee is often negotiable, depending on busy they are.

I would also be very careful with photos - many of their photos are so outdated that some could be more than a decade old. Whether it's through a middleman or direct, insist on asking for recent non-photoshopped photos. Or ask them to just take one on the spot and send it over the phone. Don't believe in anything you see online.

While there are definitely good quality guys with the looks, body and attitudes, my take is that at least 2/3 of them are there to make a quick buck and they won't mind cheating by using doctored or old photos, sometimes even fake ones to lure you in.

Also NEVER give them the room number to go meet you directly, because if the photos are fake you would have a hard time getting rid of them. Meet them in the lobby or at the entrance. They don't know how you look. If they look totally different, just run. If they insist on going up to the room it is also a sign that they're likely to be dubious.

That's the situation with hiring Mainland Chinese escorts active in Hong Kong. I suspect the same with their listings within China. Note also the going rate is also similar, like around as low as RMB600 to anything between RMB1,000-1,500. Again, IMO, nothing in China worth more than RMB1K, or USD200.

Not that they're bad looking. From my experiences the services are very rarely as professional as those in US and Europe. The attitude is more about the hustle than anything. You can tip if they are really good, but you can never ask them to charge less if the services are lousy.

Back to Hong Kong. So how to find escorts on Grindr, etc.? Most of them are active in the city center, mainly in the area between Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan subway (MTR) station in Kowloon. If you're traveling its likely that you will be passing through this area.

Actually you will be able to see not just Mainland Chinese, but also escorts from Thailand, other Asian countries and an increasing number of Western ones. However, for the Western ones you can just go to the usual sites like rent.men to find them.

There are also many local Hong Kong Chinese working as "masseurs". Unlike the Mainland Chinese and other nationals they are more shy and won't advertise publicly. Some do on rent.men, Grindr, etc but most are working in "spas" or "massage parlours".

The locals usually go there to get a rub down followed by happy ending. Those places are also advertised on http://www.gayhk.com

I hope it's useful. But really, stay away from http://www.chinagayescort.com

Thanks for the rates! So not much change in 7 years.

One thing surprised me: you can do incalls with guys in HK now? Like a proper incall, at his bedroom, not in a massage parlour?

When I was there, the guys would always explains that they stayed in a place were there were too many of them, and so they were only doing outcall (that was still great, my HK apartment has so many hot memories).

What does incall look like: some shoddy, really small bedroom?

I think this will be useful to many people who are just traveling there, but I am not clueless, I used to live in HK and I did hire 40 different escorts when there (+many repeats for some of them, + many HE or full service in massage parlours).

I hired many times through gayhk.com (agree that is the best way) and other times through the various agencies, so I already know the tricks.

And sorry to contradict you, but even though some of these agencies were useless, some were reliable and were doing quality checks on the guys that they listed, and those only started to list them when their visa was available.

I also know that an agency has got the guys that I wanted to cross the border from Shenzhen just for me (when they could, with the idea that the escort would then be available for other clients for 2 weeks).

"Services rarely as professional as US and Europe"? I had the exact opposite experience, they usually were compensating for their lack of English with a lot of hard work in bed, seriously, and they were never on the clock. In US or EU, I often had the feeling of being just another job. In HK, that was not the case they cared about getting me happy. Maybe because I had a reputation for nice tips. Also they all look so young and fresh (if you chose well) not like the US and Europe, where the majority start escorting after 25, and, as far as I am concerned, well past the "hot" age.

My point about the agencies is that you're paying a markup unnecessarily for nothing. I honestly don't know others that are still active except China Gay Escorts (CGE), which has a terrible reputation, at least among the people I know.

I can tell how I heard of them 6, 7 years ago. I was actually visiting a Mainland MB ("money boy", a term they are use to refer to themselves). After the, er, action we were just chatting a bit while he got a call from someone claiming to be an online middleman.

According to the MB after the call it wasn't uncommon for them to get calls like this, as there were (still are? don't know) many such "agencies" in China. Essentially they just scanned the net and found out who were working, "stole" their photos and put them on their sites if they hadn't worked with the MBs before, then if someone called and asked about them the agencies would call to negotiate.

If the MB was agreeable with the fee offered by the agency he would collect the full price, and then the MB would be expected to transfer the agency's share back to them after the job (which was already very easy using mobile phones in China).

Back to my guy - so he wasn't surprised to get a call from this stranger but since I was there I told my MB friend to ask for the URL of the site. That was CGE. I remember they offered my friend HK$600 plus taxi and whatever tips the client was willing to pay. CGE had actually asked for HK$1,000. So immediately there was a HK$400 markup.

My friend ended up saying no because the fee was too low and he was tired. So that's essentially how they work.

In any case I checked CGE out after reading your comment, as I haven't visited it for years. They never bother to change the layout, as it looks exactly the same as 6, 7 years ago. Out of over 3 pages of guys/photos I can tell there are no more than 3, 4 Mainland MBs listed are active, and probably only 1 is in Hong Kong currently after also checking GAYHK, which is actually being listed as two persons (Craig and Freddy, same guy).

If that doesn't make it dubious I don't know what else to say.

And yes, most Mainland Chinese escorts can do incalls. They are visitors so they need a room to stay too. But don't expect anything fancy - how are staying in "hostels" with small and sometimes really subpar hygiene, like those in the famous Chung King Mansion. If you want incalls that's probably your only choice.

As for how professional they are - I will leave it up to others to judge. I spent a few years hiring a lot of them all over China and Hong Kong and some were indeed very wonderful experiences.

Any clients, who want to check whether the photos are fake, please download WeChat (every Chinese people use it) and make a video call. If some ones reject, just ignore them.

Totally understand your concerns.

But WeChat is still an acceptable tool now.

1)In HK, the legal system still hold quite independence to mainland China (in so far at least), especially for civil laws, so that your communication by wechat for hiring escort won't be censored.

2)In mainland China, whatsapp connot work without vpn, so mostly people including escorts hardly download it. So if choosing not to use wechat, you may miss most of choices from mainland China.

I got a massage at a 5-star hotel in China. I asked for a male but got a female. At the end she asked me if I wanted “this area” massaged? Is this common? Does it happen in HK too?

I don't think this unprofessional situation would happen in HK. And even in China, this would be not very common in a 5-star hotel.
