Jason, who dances at Remington's in Toronto, is spending the winter down in Puerto Vallarta. He's advertising his services in Rentboy using the name Alberto. I've never had a hotel private with him, but he provides a really good lap dance.....

do not go

do not trust the cops

they pulled my over on my 1 block walk to the hotel, and asked "where are you going".

they then shoved me against the car

they then pat me down.

they said they heard i drugs on me...

this was at 7pm, between the restaurant and hotel.

i will NEVER go back there again.

i recommend that you do not go, and if you do, watch your back, and WATCH OUT FOR THE COPS!

Frequent PV visitor here.....never with any concerns regarding safety or danger....I don't consider it as a destination to look for guys though.....more so, a place for relaxing & some stellar restaurants....I've brought a guy along a couple times with never having any problems in the hotels / resorts where we stayed....(in the mainstream ones / not even the gay-friendly places that exist there)......basically as easy as checking into a hotel in Las Vegas with another guy - no questions asked.

Well, I have heard of some U.S. and Canadian citizens who have gotten into trouble there, but in each case those people did get involved in the drug trade. I'm not saying that there isn't any police corruption and that it's impossible that someone could just be randomly harassed by police, but I frequently encounter police while walking there (and I'm often by myself) and I've never had any problems. That being said, in my experience the biggest risk there (assuming that one isn't engaging in any illegal activity) is that there are plenty of people who will try to take economic advantage of tourists, whether that be storekeepers or waiters "forgetting" change or making improper change, vendors making up ridiculously high prices for gringos versus locals, or pickpockets. For those reasons I recommend not getting so sloppy drunk that you don't know what's going on; having enough small bills so that you don't really need change from servers in restaurants; and asking in advance how much something is going to cost versus just trusting a local who tells you what something should cost.

My 1st thought with what you said - if you ever let a storekeeper or waiter get away with "forgetting change or making improper change", then you're a wimp.....with this kind of specific occurrence if it happened - keep it cordial & polite but stand your ground, speak up & make them make it right - it's not that hard to do.

Never had a problem with the police in Puerta Vallarta nor did I have any problems with merchants trying to cheat me. Everywhere I went I felt very safe and the local people were friendly and welcoming (expats and tourists are their major source of income so it would be unwise of them to be otherwise). I suspect that tealady is not giving us the whole story.

Friends who live there report the same thing: The local people, including the local authorities, have little tolerance for anything that would threaten the tourist or expat trade.

I know this thread is pretty stale, but I wanted to drop one piece of info in case any members happen to visit the local gay strip club, Antropology, while in PVR. I've visited many times over the years, but I hadn't been to this club until pretty recently. The dancers are aggressive, but cute and friendly. There's definitely not going to be any problem breaking the ice once you get settled and order a drink.

On my first visit there, I made the rookie mistake of getting a little more intoxicated than I should have, and I ended up leaving my debit card hanging out of the ATM outside the club. I was happily surprised the next morning to have a message waiting for me at the front desk from the manager of Antropology telling me that he had found the card, called around to the hotels to try and locate me, and would be holding it for me in their safe until I could make it back down there that evening. I went, it was there, he was super nice, and I stayed for several more sexy lap dances!

As has been said already above, Puerto Vallarta makes its living off of tourism, and the Playa los Muertos area of Old Vallarta especially relies on the gay tourists to stay afloat. There may be the odd hustler trying to make his way up to your room and back out with your wallet every now and then, but over all, PVR's locals tend to look out for the reckless gringos who descend on their beautiful town year after year. If you're heading down there, definitely check out Antropology, and have yourself a good time! (But try to hold on to your debit cards.) :p
