Although it constantly gets bad reviews etc these made it the more tempting knowing there would be TURKISH MALE RENT. The entrance was 35TL / £10 / $12 and you go in what looks like a taxi office with guys sitting round on old sofas and chairs ( are thy more rent waiting??) Was met and shown round by a pretty buff 22y/o wearing his peshtemal low at the front. In the smoking area were about 5 guys all in peshtemals - all handsome a couple stunning. In my decades of travel to Turkey, I would never classify any of my trips as “safe". Nonetheless, I do believe it has gotten more openly dangerous in recent years. It is a very conservative country. It was long before Erdoğan. And it will continue to be so long after. He didn’t become President by accident. Unfortunately, I think people often confuse some of the “slightly more liberal" attitudes they encounter in Istanbul with the delusion that it’s a liberal Muslim country. It is not. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s any different than anywhere else in the Middle East and you’ll be fine. I love Turkey. It’s one of my favorite countries in the world. As the crossroads of East and West it is eternally fascinating and beautiful.
