Thanks, Guys! Just what I wanted to know. http://www.boytoy.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.png

I just put the jar on the shelf upside down, and let it mix through.

Yes, I finally figured this out a year ago. Before that, I had to get friends over to help me. http://www.boytoy.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

Peanuts are rich in omega 6 fatty acids which the body needs. However, they must be balanced with omega 3 fatty acids which are found in walnuts and almonds. That is why this discussion has focused on the other nuts as well. It's a balancing act, but a tasty one! So to get the protein and the good fat one needs to eat the whole enchilada... Or rather nut... And that includes the oil... but not just peanuts... a variety of nuts.

Also, as I mentioned above when freshly ground it takes a while for the oil to separate out...

I thought everyone was aware of this, but nobody has mentioned it. There is a certain percentage of rodent fecal matter allowed in a jar of PB. It's how they are dried? I think, not certain, that goes for so called natural stuff. Rats, mice, voles like our nuts too.

That's the way I feel about Trader Joe's dark chocolate covered dried blueberries. The antioxidants in the dried blueberries and the dark chocolate are good for you (oh, stop snickering!) and when you store them in the freezer? BOOM.

It only takes a couple of them to feel TREATED.

Just got back from my Trader Joe - decided to try the chocolate covered blueberries - TERRIFIC!

Thanks Deej

ps Tried the chocolate covered cranberries, too. Oh God

Whole leaf or shredded? http://www.boytoy.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

Heeheehee. "It depends" is the answer, of course. If you use whole leaf, you just have to cut off the crusts. If you use shredded, not only do you have to cut off the crusts, you have to squoosh the sandwich down flat so the shreds don't fall out.

"Everybody knows that."

Ah, y'all think you're so sophicated, donchaz? Go retro, my friends, go retro. Build a sandwich of Jif Extra Chunky on Wonder Bread with an inch of iceberg lettuce. Pair with an ice-cold Pepsi with no calories and no caffeine. Ye-e-e-ah!

Reminds me of a burger joint in LA called "In-N-Out Burger" You could order a burger "animal style" with Iceberg lettuce used instead of a bun. It was very popular, but I just could never wrap my head around the idea.

Still is popular! There's one not too far from me and when i'm in the mood, I'll have a double-double (double patty, double cheese), animal style and a chocolate (remember, I'm a chocoholic) shake please.

Never heard of lettuce and peanut butter. And while I like lettuce, I like it mainly in salads. At hamburger joints, I usually hold the lettuce because they put so dang much on it.

I'm with PK on the peanut butter and bananas, although I like mine smooth and without the whipped cream.

Kraft smooth peanut butter, a bit of Becel margarine for added smoothness, on very fresh whole wheat bread, with not too ripe bananas and a sprinkling of cinnamon, usually washed down with a nice cold glass of skim milk.

I often choose unprocessed foods, but I have to have my Kraft peanut butter: I've been making these since I was 8 years old. It's usually my late night comfort food.

Take two slices of bread, spread some peanut butter on it and add some some lettuce.

Option: You can add mayonnaise or white cheese.

Bon Appétit ! :)

Thanks for the pics, Steven. Unfortunately, neither one shows the correct way to make the King of Sandwiches. The first one is close, but the bread appears to be cracked wheat or some other non-Wonder Bread. In addition, it contains only about half as much lettuce as it should. In the second picture, the bread is, OMG, toasted! Blech!

Acceptable additions to the Jif Extra Crunchy include only a slice of Kraft American processed cheese (the kind that comes individually wrapped in plastic), and/or a slice of Oscar Mayer large bologna. Acceptable additional spreads include full-fat real butter or Kraft Miracle Whip.

I am a Fundamentalist Sandwicharian.

Get thee behind me cheese, mayo, lettuce, Miracle Whip, cream cheese on my peanut butter sandwich. The only proper condiment is jelly- but I will grudgingly accept bananas. Nothing wrong with peanut butter on wheat or on toasted bread.

I forgot to point out that the pics show the crusts still on. Come on, folks, who raised you up, anyway?

You remind me of one of my (extremely fit, 25 year-old) Belgian nephews. He puts mayo on just about everything. Thank you for reminding the audience that different peanut butters have different nutritional values depending on their additives. There really isn't any evidence I've heard of that salt is harmful to those without high blood pressure, heart disease, or kidney disease. The most healthful nuts are almonds and hazelnuts, because they are low in the unhealthful saturated fats and high in the healthful unsaturated fats. When my diabetics who are on insulin have trouble with blood sugars dipping in the middle of the night, I recommend a handful of almonds or hazelnuts at bedtime because they are digested slowly and have a healthful nutritional profile.

As an aside, I don't agree that with the above slide that one needs to limit the amount of TOTAL fat in one's diet. There is no evidence that fat other than saturated or trans-fat are bad for you.
