That professor was quite a hunk! At first glance, I could see why the late professor was pissed off when he was arrested in his own house, after his estranged husband accepted his invitation to collect his belongings, then overstayed his welcome. But I guess it's never a good idea to become belligerent with police, no matter how unreasonable their actions. It will be interesting to see what the autopsy determines as his cause of death--my guess would be that the police probably whacked him pretty hard in the head, and it's going to be from bleeding around the brain. If the police really did go overboard, I hope his estate will be entitled to civil compensation. The other aspect of this case I find fascinating is how quickly the marriage fell apart. I wonder how long these two knew each other before-hand. Did the behavior of one or both really change drastically after the wedding took place? I'm not sure I'll ever tie the knot, but I imagine that I wouldn't marry someone unless I felt fairly confident that I knew what I was getting into.

Why, oh why, do NONE of my young, aspiring, Assistant Professors look like him?? Mine are either women, terminally straight, or of the wrong body-type.

In reading the news reports, I do believe that an investigation is due here ... he shouldn't have died. If head trauma is noted (subdural hematoma or other similar maladies), the officers who made the arrest will probably have to answer some serious questions. Especially if there were no extensive external signs of injury.

Is Massachusetts a Community Property State? If so, his estrange husband will probably inherit his stuff ... including the house. Wild.

I had only enough time to glance at the article, and was puzzled to read this caption:

Rocky relationship: See (left) and Sunder Ganglani, 32 (right) got married this past May but had already obtained protective orders against one another

Rocky relationship, indeed? Or have I not seen the entire picture?

Massachusetts law doesn't matter. Yale is in Connecticut.

Amazing! Does Yale pay their assistant profs so little that the guy had to escort for money? Or did he list himself with escort services on the rebound from his rocky marriage, looking for love?

Massachusetts is not a listed community property state, but that may not be relevant if the property is near Yale which is in New Haven, Connecticut. For the record, Connecticut isn't a listed community property state either.

Not so wild. Just tragic.

Let's not discount the possibility that it was the husband who took out the ads to cause trouble. They did both have orders of protection.

Rent in that area is low. Pay in the humanities may be modest, but I'd be surprised if he had to escort just to make ends meet. Either there was another reason for his escorting or the partner took out the ads.
