Someone mentioned recently that they didn't like 'selfies' (Note I heard on NPR yesterday that 'selfie' is Oxford Dictionaries' Word Of The Year http://www.theguardian.com/books/2013/nov/19/selfie-word-of-the-year-oed-olinguito-twerk We need to toast the unknown Australian who 1st used it in 2002) that showed the escort with his camera phone.

One of my pet peeves on pictures is the arched back as in this ad

http://www.rentboy.com/ Listing.aspx?lid=386342

The position seems overly effeminate to me. So those pictures even on the most masculine, rugged looking escorts put me off. Any opinions from the rest of you on this?

Hahaha you're right. I haven't seen many pictures like that, but my first thought was that he needs to be in high heels to pull that off.

Sounds like a great new topic - pet peeves in pictures. Or other pet peeves in ads in general. Mine is the wrong checkbox on body hair. A guy's categorized himself as "Some Hair", but a smooth chest & not even a happy trail in the pictures. It's not asking whether or not you're bald. :-)

well, to me, this guy is entirely unappealing, arched back or not.....too effeminate-appearing and those silly poses make it worse....that gay underwear doesn't help, too.....

however, the arched back thing is a VERY major turn-on for me when masculine guys do it for me (while I watch)...I know that sounds contradictory, but the dudes I know are very masculine and none objects to doing it (yeah, they're being paid, of course)....it's just a sexy pose, I guess......

I have 2 basic photo pet peeves - first, I tend not to like shots that look too stylistically "posed" - even though it's great when it's clear that they are professional shots vs. amateur, I still like a guy who looks like he's relaxed and casual, instead of consciously posed. There's a difference between showing off and being plastic.

The other pet peeve seems to be favored by the "thug" escorts (though not limited to them) - and it's amazing how many copy cat ads I seem to see that follow this formula. Lots of pictures on a slant (makes me think he normally stands at a 45-degree angle instead of upright - and no comments from the peanut gallery, lol), and lots of "composite" shots - like 2 identical half-pics in the same photo, etc. (Why is seeing 2, or even 3, of the exact same pic any better than seeing it just once????) Also, what's with all the exaggerated forehead lines?

I am aghast that someone would consciously start a thread with the purpose of belittling another based on their appearance. You should be ashamed; and, as gay men should certainly know better than to mock someone simply because you find their pictures to be "effeminate."

Well, on one hand, we all have different likes and dislikes, and no one esctort is going to please everyone (no pun intended). But I don't think the point of the thread is to belittle anyone's appearance - it's the business matter of how they present themselves in photos for the primary purpose of attracting clients.

Being in the theatre biz, I can certainly say the same kinds of subjectivity are applied to actor headshots -- general appearance/"attractiveness" is not always so much the issue as it is what kind of statement the photos make in of themselves.

Sometimes it's hard to separate the business end of things with the personal side of things - but I do think that was the intention here. It's how the escorts are choosing to advertise, not how we judge their appearance in general.

How's THIS for a BEAUTIFUL Arched Back picture - thanks to the Trevor Adams thread....

Well you found the exception that proves the rule. 'Exception' in this case taking its archaic meaning of 'proving'.

Whoops - I meant to say the archaic meaning of 'prove' which meant 'tests'.

obviously you havent been on this board that long. shame is for those who aren't in a looks based biz :)

when your living is based on the image you present, it's all up for discussion. escorts, models, actors. you're being hired BASED on the look
