It’s been hard to find shoes that can actually be repaired (I was looking in stores, not online). I hate the idea of discarding shoes when the soles wear out.

I'm paying 300 plus clams for these. And no they are not fancy-shmancy. Just American-made and repairable.

I guess I gotta pay for long-lasting stuff!

My shoe repair guy can re-sole virtually any shoe I being him, except for athletic shoes.

The new shoes are nice, though.

yes, an excellent investment.....

but....

don't think I've ever paid more than, oh, $80 or so for shoes....Target gets $20 from me for a basic Casio watch every few years....a three-pack of boxer briefs is about $12 at Costco....

and my favorite dude to "hire" is about $200/hr.....

we all have our priorities.....

Thank you, AZ.

I forgot to add that, for me, $300 is a very large sum of money. So this is more an investment than a simple piece of fashion.

The shoes are very nice, look comfortable, there isn't a better person for you to spend $300 on than yourself and good for you to have shoes resoled when the time comes. I'll spend more money on shoes than perhaps many but will buy underwear, socks, etc at Walmart or Target. When it comes to underwear I find being thin/in shape makes me feel better than any expensive pair of boxer shorts ever could :)

I inherited from my father a love of dress shoes. He was a working man who always had one pair or excellent dress shoes which he kept polished to a mirror like finish. Those shoes were always Florsheim which were very popular in the 40’s and 50’s.

I wear cheap tennis shoes to the gym daily and when well-worn I simply trash them. I just returned from Spain where I did a huge amount of city walking and wore Clark’s; unfortunately I cannot wear Ecco’s, they kill me. My major shoe splurge is dress shoes. I only wear one brand – Salvatore Ferragamo. I love these shoes and although they have cost me a small fortune, over the years, I have collected ten pairs of different styles and colors. Each pair has its own shoe trees and I keep them all highly polished in their original cotton cloth sacks.

P.S. I'm 73 and haven't worn underwear since I was in my early 20's; I hate the damn things. Additionally I sleep in my birthday suit, which at my age is a rather disgusting site but damn comfortable.

Another brand of shoes that is American-made is SAS, who sell through their own stores. They are not cheap, but I have never paid $300 for a pair. I have never had to have them re-soled, and I still wear a few pair that I bought more than ten years ago. Shoe comfort is very important for me, and I have rarely found cheap shoes that give me that. Although I go through a pair of tennis shoes every six months (I play several times per week on hard courts), it is worth it to me to pay $130-150 for the best ones from New Balance, because cheaper ones often lead to problems with my feet and ankles.
