Saw this film tonight at Film Society of Lincoln Center. Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsburg in his freshman year at Columbia, gets wrapped up in a strange friendship with a sophomore blond reptilian beauty played by Dane DeHaan. Michael C. Hall is in this, too, in a tricky reversal of his role in "Dexter" - he's the one that gets stabbed. And Ben Foster as William Burroughs. The entire Beat Crowd in nascent form is here, with an oddly appropriate soundtrack score by Nico Muhly. So Hall loves the DeHaan character, who is trying to break free of him, and Radcliffe loves the DeHaan character, but it is unrequited. Anyway, it is an interesting slice of NY gay history, c. 1943-44.
