Lucy Ball was definitely pretty in her heyday, but I didn't know she was a gay icon.

 

I was surprised about Lucy as well. Perhaps, it is because she is more visible than many movie stars from the 1940s and 1950s because of the 80th+ rerun of "I Love Lucy" espisodes on cable. Also, many of her TV interviews are available on YouTube.

 

My comment about Lucy as a gay icon is based on how often she is mention on the gay gossip site, http://www.datalounge.com. She is not talked about as often as Madonna and Lady Gaga, but it's close.
