Announcing the 4th Annual DC Forum Lunch Get-Together Weekend - January 17-19, 2014

With all the questions on the forum, and all the PMs and texts I have been receiving, I guess I had better go ahead and at least officially announce the 4th annual DC Forum Luncheon. Trust me, I had no idea when I first arranged this little party in 2011 that it would still be going on. But here we go again. Round #4.

 

As it has been done before, this will be done on the weekend that the MidAtlantic Leather (MAL) weekend will be occurring so if you have an interest in that event, you might want to check it out. Information is available at http://www.leatherweekend.com

 

As of now, there are 2 planned events to meet with other forum members. HOWEVER I am still working on a couple of other ideas that I should be able to announce in the next couple of weeks. There will be other events. I can guarantee you that. But as of now, the first get together will be Saturday evening, January 18, starting about 9 pm at Ziegfeld’s/Secrets. Both a gay bar with go-go boys upstairs and drag shows downstairs, there’s certainly enough to keep us entertained. As well as the chance to talk and get to meet other forum members. And you never can tell when you might find a go-go boy to take home to your husband (right, Ace? )

 

The main get-together will be lunch/brunch at Annie’s Paramount Steak House on Sunday, January 19. Officially, we will be starting at 1130. However, if past is prologue, people will start gathering about 11 for a drink and a chance to talk. Given the number of confirmed or likely attendees even now, I think we will be able to be in the upstairs room this year, which will give us a bit more privacy. But it is always a great meal, with even better company.

I am looking to add events for both Friday evening and Sunday evening, so check back here to see what else is being added. I have 4 or 5 other ideas so it is more a matter of deciding what to do. These will be announced within the next couple of weeks. But count on something both Friday evening and Sunday evening as well.

 

For members coming from out of town, I will attempt to contact Kimpton Hotels tomorrow to ask about the possibility of getting a group discount for a block of rooms at the Hotel George, which is a block away from MAL. As of now, I have already from enough people to know that about 8 rooms would be needed, so getting to 10 seems entirely possible. But hope to know more by tomorrow evening. A few of us stayed at the George last year and we were treated like royalty. It’s a Kimpton, so what else would you expect (my favorite LGBT hotel chain). It’s only a block to the craziness that is MAL, but much quieter (unless you make your own party). Of course, if you want to stay where all the action is, MAL HQ is at the Hyatt Regency. You would need to book that through http://www.leatherweekend.com. But check back tomorrow for information on booking at the George. If you are interested in staying at the George, please send me a PM. The sooner the better.

 

As far as what to expect as far as attendance, the first year we had about 15 total attendees (if my memory is right). The second year we were at 22. Last year we had 32 attending (16 escorts, 16 non-escorts). And as of now, with this just being the initial, official announcement, I already have confirmation from 15 escorts. I have confirmation of 10 non-escorts (and have yet to officially hear from any DC area resident so we know that will grow considerably). In all likelihood, it will end up at 40 or more attendees this year. I will let everyone officially announce their own attendance, but the names I have heard, both on the escort and client side make me feel like a little kid who knows Santa has already gotten him everything, but knows there is a lot more great stuff coming too. This is going to be amazing.

 

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in DC (that’s right, once again my partner is helping me to organize this thing). Make sure you check back here regularly, especially the next couple of weeks as I finalize the rest of the events and get info on the hotel.

 

For those of you who have never attended, this really is a great chance for clients to meet escorts that they would never meet otherwise and for escorts to meet clients who might become long-time clients. Before last year’s event I hadn’t hired anyone new in well over a year. There are now several escorts I have seen multiple times myself, simply because they came to the luncheon. And I know that scenario has played out over and over again. It really is a win-win for both clients and escorts alike. Oh, and it’s just a lot of fun too.

 

The only confirmation I will actually need will be for the luncheon. Most other events, it will be just show up if you are interested. Come to some events, come to all. Whatever you are interested in.

I spoke with Kimpton Group Sales today about discounts for a block of rooms at the Hotel George. I found out that for the size of our group, we would do just as well using their Red Ribbon Campaign discount. If you are not familiar with Kimpton and the Red Ribbon Campaign, it is a Kimpton Program that provides a 15% discount to the LGBT community. In addition to the discount, Kimpton also makes a $10/night donation to a local HIV charity. In DC the donation goes to the Whitman-Walker Clinic (for a list of the recipient in other cities, see the list at http://www.kimptonhotels.com/kimpton-cares/red-ribbon.aspx). This program is good all year round. The link below will show the Red Ribbon Campaign code and for the Hotel George, but any time you want to book a Kimpton Hotel, all you need to do is include the RRC rate code and the Red Ribbon Campaign rate will show up. Just remember to change the dates.

Plus other confirmations made to me (which I will let them make the formal announcments here). So as of now, we sit at 18 escorts already. And already at 11 confirmed clients, of whom only myself, my partner, and countryboywny are announced (I feel so lonely). And no confirmations from anyone in DC yet. So 30 effectively already.
