In my escort trick bag I always have condoms, gloves, different types of lube, a dildo, mouthwash and other personal hygiene items.

I will just cut to the chase.

Is it my job to provide a fresh bottle of "poppers" for each and every client?

Or to have Max Impact spray on hand at all times?

Thanks for your advisement.

Warm wishes - TONY Bishop

From a client perspective, I would never assume that an escort would provide poppers.

I expect an escort to show up with condoms and lube, and then we can choose to use either his or mine.

I expect a masseur to show up with some sort of massage oil/lotion if he's coming to me, and then we can use either his or mine.

Beyond that, I wouldn't expect an escort or masseur to show up with anything specific unless it's discussed in advance (e.g., fetish gear/specific clothing, etc).

Is it my job to provide a fresh bottle of "poppers" for each and every client?

I tried asking this question in a less direct way a couple of weeks ago in a thread called Supplies-to-Go, but when none of the working guys who responded mentioned poppers as something they regularly carry in their "escort trick bag," I posted on the thread to make the question more specific.

I was surprised when they were brought out of the bag at one appointment and, another time (based on reviews), surprised when they weren't offered. (It wasn't an issue for me one way or the other as I've never used them.)

Doesn't seem to me that an escort has any responsibility to provide them or that a client has any right to expect them if there was no prior discussion about them. Same goes for the dildo. Condoms, lube -- sure. Personal hygiene products -- definitely a nice touch. Wouldn't it be logical for anything else to be a matter of what's discussed between escort and client in planning their time together? One more reason for good communication.

How big is the dildo and how would you know it'll fit the client? :p

I don't think poppers are responsibility of the escort.

I agree totally... and I never expect poppers to be provided.

I learned about poppers from an escort who brought them along. And forgot to take them when he left :-) I've only had one or two escorts supply them, but I often have them on hand when I'm meeting an escort. it's about half-and-half if they've joined me or turned them down, some guys say they give them a headache, but nobody's ever been upset if I use them.

People still use poppers? Seems so 80s. :p

It boils down to personal responsibility. YOU are solely responsible for YOUR sexual health and enjoyment, and that applies equally to clients and escorts. If YOU expect to have safer sex, you need to arrive ready to do so. If YOU expect to use poppers, likewise.

If the use of poppers isn't your idea and/or preference then it isn't your responsibility to provide. If your clients EXPECT poppers to be part of the experience, then (assuming no other previous arrangement) it's on them to provide.

If something is vital for YOU to have a good time then you'd damn sure better make sure it's on hand. (err, so to speak ... I did see you bring gloves)

No, you shouldn't be expected provide poppers. I always offer to provide condoms and lube as well, but almost always, the escort brings his preferred brands.

For clients, it's always good to have some as back-up. I had an escort forget his condoms once, so that could have delayed us if I hadn't had back-ups.

When I hire a guy, I always have available for HIM new mouthwash, tush wipes (you know, scented bottom wipes), lube (although I suggest he bring along HIS favorite), and condoms guesstimating his size. I used poppers in the 90's (never knew what they were in the 80's deej!) but have not seen them in years and would NOT expect the escort to provide them, nor to bring Max Impact spray. Of course, Tony, whatever else toy-wise that you carry in your personal bag of tricks might be interesting to see and experience.

Absolutely! In an ideal world all the basics and details should be covered in prior communication.

In the real world only a handful of clients, like the discerning gentlemen from this Board, communicate well ahead of time. In a large number of my bookings there's little to no information from the client's side. For instance a prospective first-time client stumbles upon my ad, website or review and books an hour or a couple of hours of my time. There's no indication of what the client is interested in and what he's looking for ... Then it's my job to get back to him and ask. I hate to be in the middle of the action and being asked "Can I top you?" without being properly prepared beforehand. In that regard bottoming needs to be planned and communicated ahead of time and not in the spur of the moment.

In fact I'm mostly hired as a top and I always assume that condoms will be needed and that's why I bring them with me. The previous posters made some good comments. Deej is right on the money that everyone is responsible for his personal health and to ensure the safety of the session both the escort and the client should bring condoms and lube. If one of them is not able to bring them, he should alert the other person and communicate that ahead of time.

Do not assume that your escort will always bring condoms and that everyone communicates properly.

+1. At least. Actually, I normally keep the same supplies with me that Tony does as well. And sometimes poppers if I remember to throw them in if I know an escort particularly likes them.

It just makes sense to me for the client to have supplies for a couple of reasons. First, if the escort forgets them or doesn't have them, there is no problem. But for me, the main consideration is if I will be the top, it makes sense that I have the lube and condoms that I prefer and that work best for me. If the escort is topping, it would make sense for him to have the brands that work best for him. And if we flip, have both handy.

I don't use poppers during sex, but used to keep them on hand and bring them on outcalls if clients requested them. However, I stopped earlier this year when Health Canada (in their infinite wisdom) cracked down, enforcing their regulation under the Food & Drug Act, with fines of up to $5,000 and jail terms of up to 3 years for their sale and distribution. Priape, our national gay lifestyle chain, has since gone bankrupt and closed all 4 stores, citing the poppers ban as one of the primary causes.

damn! really?!? I loved Priape... they had the best jockstraps...

I always bring poppers and always make sure I take them with when the session is over unless the client asks to keep them. This always preempts the proffer of a generous tip at the clients' suggestion for supplying. Just sayin'... A lot of guys feel sleazy asking for head-cleaner from behind a counter at the dirty bookstore. ;-)

From this client's perspective, poppers and/or Maximum Impact is not expected. However, I used to hire a guy fairly regularly who would ask me if I wanted him to stop and pick up poppers, which I appreciated. As a surprise, he brought Maximum Impact once. That was interesting.

I typically have my own condoms, lube, poppers (if I want to use them), etc. Before I bring poppers I always ask the escort if he is OK with me using them. To utter a variant of line I have said numerous times (and Steven used last week, you are welcome Steven) the presence of a financial transaction does not absolve either party (including the client) from behaving like a gentleman.

I would assume that a client who expects to use poppers will bring his own, unless he has requested that the escort bring them. I would also advise an escort not to produce poppers for a client who hasn't mentioned them, since one never knows how a client who is not used to them will respond to them. The first time they were offered to me, I didn't know what they were (it was in 1964), and although I grew to enjoy them later, that first time my physical reaction scared the hell out of me and killed the sexual experience. Both parties should take the lube and condoms in the bag for granted, but anything else--dildo, handcuffs, whipped cream, candle, cigars, drugs, etc.--should be discussed ahead of time.

I have never traveled with them or provided them except and unless it was a specific special request from the client. I think they would be hard to explain to tsa or even in a traffic stop search..... I must say however that over the course of my career probABLY 75% OF MY BOTTOM CLIENTS HAVE USED THEM to lessen or deaden the inital pain of penetration. I have heard they are VERY dangerous so i personally have never used them.

A Word of Caution

If you are asked to provide poppers for a client, be sure to ask whether they have taken any ED drugs (Viagra, Cialis, etc). Using poppers together with Viagra can cause a sudden dangerous and sometimes fatal drop in blood pressure as they both cause the smooth muscle of the blood vessels to dilate. Word is that the crackdown by Health Canada may have been precipitated more by all the cases of men ending up in ER after using both drugs, rather than by a desire to rob gay men of a cheap high.
