Why not an NY Meetup?

Even though many board members and escorts live in NY, a meetup there hasn't been announced as long as I've been on this board. I'm sure there are private meetings, but nothing like the big metetups in DC and Palm Springs.

I think an NY meetup could be really successful if someone wanted to organize one. Of course, a hotel meetup in NY would be prohibitively expensive, but a lunch event could draw many clients and escorts who live around the NY metro area.

And if you want to assure the meetup is all male and kitten-free, Fluffy won't be back in NY for any significant period of time until January or February. :o

Could be mistaken, but isn't that what the Rentboy sponsored Hustlaball is about, or supposed to be about? I'm not a 'party' person in the least, so again, I may be mistaken as to the purpose of Hustlaball.

I think HustlaBall is more of a circuit party, and what FreshFluff might be suggesting is more like the DC get-togethers at Annie's. I think this should definitely happen, perhaps at some equivalent restaurant, say the Dish or Rail Line (formerly Moonstruck).

I recall former frequent poster NYTomcat telling me that there was what was most likely an informal gathering as I recall of those who lived in the NYC area a few years ago... and that they met at the Olive Garden in Times Square... not exactly the most fashionable of establishments in the City... and certainly not one for an auspicious occasion... However, from what I was made to believe a number of locals did attend what was a nice relaxing affair. So perhaps someone who lives in town might be able to get the ball rolling since it seems that there is some precedent... even if on a much less grandiose level compared to the DC and PS gatherings.

I would hope that Fluffy could attend. Having had the pleasure of her company for a social evening in NYC last year I think she'd be a most welcome addition to any party!

As Tyro mentions, someone would have to take charge of it if it were to happen. These things can't come together by consensus. Palm Springs has been organized by Lucky and Oliver, and LBT has organized DC. In each case the organizers set the date and the agenda, and people either come or don't come. I think each event started small and has grown in attendance each year since. So to make it work one or two people would need to be in charge and make the executive decisions.

Also each meetup has an an "anchor" event which helps set a date and provide a focus. I believe the Palm Springs gathering originally revolved around The Follies, and the pool party was a later addition. And as has been mentioned the DC luncheon is anchored to the MAL weekend. There was a gathering a few years ago in Chicago anchored to IML. In each instance it has never been a requirement to go to Follies/MAL/IML but it provides something to revolve the weekend around.

Would Hustlaball be an event to attach a meetup to? Something else?

I would love to come up from Philadelphia to attend a lunch or dinner. But, I am less interested in a two-or-three day weekend anchored by an event. Also, a lunch or dinner would be easier to organize. If successful, it could evolve in following years into a full weekend event anchored by something like the Hustlaball.

I'd be glad to take you as my "date" to the DC event, whenever it is occurring.

As the guy who sort of started the DC luncheon (ok I did start it), I can tell you it only takes one thing to get it going: one person to step up and do it. Preferably someone naive enough to have no idea of what they are getting themselves into. And God, does that apply to me when I started. I was just looking back at the first announced DC luncheon. I posted the invitation to the first luncheon on December 17, 2000. I can only laugh about how green and utterly naive I was then. I was the dictionary definition of a newbie. I had been on the forum less than 4 months. At that point, I had hired escorts exactly 4 times at that point. I had come out to my wife 3 weeks earlier. But BMW (Brandon Michael Williams for new people here) was coming to DC (for the first time) so I was going to see him. My best friend NYTomcat was coming down to see him. So why not have a lunch with them both. Which became why not have a lunch for everyone on the forum. And THAT is how the DC luncheon started. It was as simple as that. I had no idea what I was signing up for. And now I am only too glad to do it.

So as you can see the timing of the DC luncheon actually was pure serendipity when it first started. The fact that it was occurring during MAL weekend never even was brought up until the event was upon us. And I can assure you BMW coming to DC had nothing to do with MAL. He was coming because there was an exhibit on gay portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery he wanted to see -- hardly a MAL event. Once I discovered the link to MAL, it has become the anchor to build the future events around. So as long as anyone is interested in meeting in DC, and wants me to do it, I guess I'll be organizing the DC luncheon, and it will be on whatever weekend MAL is occurring that's a hint for everyone when it will be this year!!!!!

I was talking about the DC event with my partner just last night (while sitting in a jacuzzi at our hotel celebrating his birthday, surrounded by lesbians -- weird life, I know) and how it was time to really get things wrapped up and announced for Luncheon #4. Expect the "official" announcement sometime in Mid November. But if you haven't picked up the hints scattered over this, and numerous other posts I've made in the last few months about which weekend it will be, PAY ATTENTION!!!!!

As to New York, I know the spring before I joined the forum, in March 2010, there was a NY get together on the same weekend as Palm Springs weekend. Obviously I wasn't there, but I do remember hearing about it. I think Cooper was involved and a few other long-time denizens of the forum. It was at one of the strip clubs if I remember correctly.

So who wants to step up? Chicago seems cursed no matter what happens, be it the first dinner or the hoped-for get together this year that just didn't come together. So why not NY? I certainly will offer any advice and help I can to anyone who would like to do it. And look at it this way guys (or gals): you never know who you will meet. I have met some incredible escorts I wouldn't have met unless I had been organizing that luncheon. I know others have met escorts and seen guys on an on-going basis because of first meeting there. So do yourself a favor if no one else: step up and volunteer. You never know who you might meet that you will be really glad you did.
