I really don't understand iCloud but it bothers me. For example: an escort sent me a short video. It is not exactly G rated. It was sent as part of a text message. Is there a problem? Is it now in my iCloud for all the world to see?

As I understand it, information stored in icloud can be accessed only by you when you sign on with your Apple ID. I was told that for the user, icloud is a secure site. However, it is my opinion that anytime you operate on the Internet or in cyber-space, and rely on a remote site to store information for you, basically you take your chances, so I am careful with information that I store, that I deem personal or sensitive in terms of ID.

 

Also, even though I had backed up information on icloud, all photos, that were not streamed, were lost when I tried to transfer them to the new phone as well as any text that had been sent previously.

 

This may not have helped, but that is what I have learned in the last few days...

It is my understanding that messages sent with iMessage (e.g. from one iPhone to another) are very securely encrypted and therefore probably more secure than regular text messages, email, or voice communication. However, given recent revelations about the NSA's abilities, I don't think we can be certain about any of this.

 

iCloud doesn't make any of your information visible for "all the world to see," so I wouldn't worry about normal people being able get at your private stuff, but I think that, as BVB suggests, anything you do online has a certain risk of being observed by hard-core hackers or government agencies.

I just heard that also...and it is disturbing. But all other aspects of gmail I really love.
