I know there is a wide variety of opinions concerning Iraq, Bush, foreign policy, and the military. But, what should be the long-range strategy for the US military?

Enlistment is down. Career guys are getting out without completing their 20 years for retirement. Current troops seem to be running out of energy. Long periods away from home are difficult on family and significant others. It's difficult (nearly impossible) to raise a family on the salary of an enlisted person.

So, if you were in charge, what would you do? How would you provide national security?
