A Common Sense Approach To Reading The Message Center

1. Avoid reading posts that irritate you. Granted you may have to read the initial post or two in a thread to determine this, but what purpose does it serve to continue reading something that irritates you.

2. Avoid reading posts made by posters that irritate you. (I’m sure we all have our own little lists and no two are the same.) From my observation over these last 10 months, it does little good to argue or debate with people who already have a set opinion about a topic. Debate is good and necessary when there is hope that opinions will change but it doesn’t usually happen in this arena. Instead, it creates unwieldy threads that people feel compelled to read and then wish they hadn’t…which brings us to my next point.

3. Just because a post has a flame next to it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll find it interesting. If you didn't care to read the thread when it first started, chances are you'll like it even less now. (I’ve found this out the hard way on a number of occasions.)

4. Don't automatically assume that certain posters are using multiple screen names just because someone else happens to agree with that particular poster and you don't. Just because two or more people are of the same mind on a particular subject (and you aren’t) doesn’t mean those two or more people are actually the same person. And we all know what tends to happen when one ASSUMES.

5. Don't assume that a new poster lacks credibility due to being a first time poster or has an infrequent number of posts. Even the triple digit posters had to start at 1 some time or another. Granted some of the upper two digit or triple digit posters have a certain degree of credibility, but it's not always the case. Each post and poster should be judged on it's own merit.

Just a few thoughts from an infrequent poster!

Hi :-)

I pretty much agree with all the statements you have made with a couple of exceptions. People here do creat multiple names. What you need to look for is a pattern For example, a group of 4 or 5 other posters emerge over a short period of time. Desptie being knew, review of the message center shows they have a few things in common like their first posts were to support one specific established memeber, and they offer broad knowledge of the activities of the message center, despite being brand new. They make some of the same spelling errors, and often have similar logic. You do a search of the Message Center and archives, and determine that a favorite past time of the newer poster is to follow the established member around and support them, maybe even 3/4 of their posts are dedicated to that activity, alone, and in several threads.

Then I think you have to ask youself...hmmmmmm...how come there is a pattern of all these new members jumping in to support this one established member? Why is it that each did it in their first post to the list? How come a large percent of the persons posts are dedicated to following this established member aroun and supporting him in multiple threads? Why do they each come in with broad knowledge of the message center? Why do they make similar spelling errors? AND this is a big one...DESPITE being a HUGE fan of the established member...to such a degree that they follow him around and support him all the time, why do they rarely communicate directly with that established memeber? I guess my statement is research it and look for patterns.

Okay, those points make some sense. But they beg the question, why would anyone bother to research postings on this board. Or at least for the purposes you suggest. I myself couldn't care less if people are using multiple aliases. ALL of our identities here are fictions; we assume personae that may or may not bear any relation to our real selves. To say that one poster is "real" while another is not, that makes no sense.

Consider this example: I work in a field where service must be consistently good or the enterprise fails. Period. We're not snivellers, but, at the same time, it's our job to MAKE the customer right no matter how much of an asshole they're being. Leaving aside the question of whether this is a talent or a failing, you'll perhaps understand when I say that I do gain some measure of vicarious enjoyment when Regulation is at his most irrascible. You gotta admit, when the guy levels canon, he typically has the powder to make you think twice about nya-nya-nyaing him with your thumbs in your ears.

But here's my real point: am I telling the truth in the paragraph above? I want to claim that since nobody here knows me anyhow, it doesn't matter whether I work in a service field or not. You either find what I wrote interesting or you don't. No amount of research is going to tell you what I do for a living, or if I really get pleasure from a bust by Regulation, just as no amount of research or pattern-spotting is going to tell you with any certainty if Regulation has more than one alias.

In the end, following that path, all you're going to pick up is a bag full of unresolvable clues. (And I've already read "The Crying of Lot 49," thanks.)

Come here for other reasons.

Anyhow, thems my two cents. Thanks for wading through.

I'm very very sad to learn you find this behavior enjoyable.

I recently had a person who used to post here ask me to look up his past postings and read them. Talk about watching paint dry or grass grow. Yawn city. Nothing about my feelings about the guy changed. In real life, I have one friend who occaisionally at his parties tapes everything that happens for the first half of the party and then the second half of the party is everyone sitting around staring at the TV as they all watch the tape of the first part. My lover and I always arrange to have a believeable pressing engagement elsewhere before even enter the party! Oh, yeah.

We all know that there are multiple Reggies. It's part of his charm. Guessing who is one of them is fun. Watching him juggle the ones you're pretty sure of can be impressive - a true art. Trying to debunk a magician never makes one very interesting. I still love you but I liked your postings a lot better a couple of weeks back. But that doesn't mean that I'm going to go back and reread them!

And one thing about the matter of practically reading this site - Some of our most interesting discussions come when someone (intentionally or not) (better when its not) hijacks a thread and the subject changes to something that noone would have thought to have started a thread about. It usually happens somewhere between the 20th and 25th postings. However, it rarely works when that subject is then hijacked again to yet another. So check into a flaming icon around #20, but unless you're already interested, don't stick around for #69!

I am sad to learn you feel this way, and we wonder why he continues? Because he gets positive reinforcement. You are encouraging the bad behavior, but I guess that is your right, no disrespect intended.

Theron, this second post that is virtually same as an earlier one is a perfect example of what many find annoying about you. It isn't what you say -- after all, your opinion is just a valid as any other poster's. But must you say it again and again? Most of the people here are not stupid. Most grasp your ideas pretty quickly, especially since they aren't really that complex. Repeating an argument ad nauseum doesn't convince someone, it just bores them to death. And what cute young escort wants to be known as a bore?

Without chaos, there can be no order, without clowns no circus, without reggie no cast of cantankerous posters cruising for a game of hardball. If you don't want to play, don't engage him. It's trying to have the last word in a catfight with a bulldog that encourages bad behaviour, so I'd suggest letting it go. Even reg knows he's become a parody of himself at this point. It's time for you to get the joke and contribute in other ways. We escorts need positive input from intelligent guys like yourself, and this ruthless badgering might only add to the peripheral assumption around here that escorts are neurotic and petty.

As one who's been blasted by regulation more than once (he's even forbidden me to address him - and this invocation of his name may well draw his wrath down upon me), I too nearly fell victim to the tempation of going the distance. But I still get a chuckle out of his posts, and find many of them worthy of consideration. Please end the crusade senior quixote, unless YOU're regulation, then just carry on smartly (smile aimed at both of you).

Great post scorpio. The lurking, unforeseen irritation, as mentioned in your item one, is nearly impossible to avoid as I just stumbled upon that very thing. I'd thought I could escape it in this thread. I'm not saying Theron is irritating. It's fine to state one's views, but to do so ad-infinitum and to add pity for those who see different, gets tiring for the rest of us after a while. All this business about researching posts to learn who's who. Who cares? We're all false here, to a degree, and for good reasons. At least until we're fortunate enough to meet, where anonymity fades and the real deal takes over. Anyway scorpio, yours was a good post. Theron, you seem fun and grounded aside from this current obsession. Hope to see more, or other, posts from you. - jc -

Thanks Joey! I totally agree you can sometimes stumble upon unforeseen irriatation, which in some cases means you have to start avoiding certain posters. Hence item two in my list. I also agree that Theron is not necessarily irritating. I found many of his initial posts entertaining, but I think everyone is more than a little tired of hearing his views on multiple screen names.

Joey, I hope you start including Florida on your travel schedule. I for one would look you up while you were here.

WetDream, since like me you are a new or infrequent poster and have been critical of Theron, I assume that you too must be another one of Reg's many alter egos. Welcome. You should receive your membership kit in the mail in 7 to 10 business days. It will explain all of the benefits of membership, including frequent flier miles. If it doesn't arrive on schedule, please call 1-800-REG-ULATE. :-)

Dear Theron -

I have spent half of the day wondering something. In your earlier career, I am sure that you had to deal with Log Cabin Republicans. Would you mind detailing the differences between your tactics with them and your tactics with our resident arch-conservative, Reg?

Hi, BIG SMILE :-)

They were not nearly as annoying, lol. No seriously, I do not wish to discuss anything in comparison to Reg. I plan to move along at this point, and feel what you've asked me to discuss will only draw me back into it...so I'll pass on this one.
