Calculating the percent of a number is simple, but can be a bit tricky if you aren't careful. Luckily, it only requires a few basic operations to get to the solution: multiplication and division. So, how did we get to the solution that 1 percent of 503 = 5.03?

**Step 1:**As we know, a whole of something is equal to 100%. In this case, we want to find what 1% of 503 is. We know that 100% of 503 is, well, just 503.**Step 2:**If 100% of 503 is 503, then we can get 1% of 503 by dividing it by 100. Let's do 503 / 100. This is equal to 5.03. Now we know that 1% is 5.03.**Step 3:**Now that we know what 1% of 503 is, we just need to multiply it by 1 to get our solution! 5.03 times 1 = 5.03. That's all there is to it!
