I am headed for Rio in a few weeks for a much needed vacation and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a hotel that will not have a prolem with my "Guests" and also if anyone has any sites for Escorts in Rio. Thanks. Grantscott

If you really insist on bringing your friends back to your room, try the Astoria Copacabana, on r. República do Peru. They charge you an "extra" for the privilege (tell them when you check in that you will be expecting guests during your stay). On the same block is the APA, also supposed to be gay-friendly. Somewhat more expensive, but right across from the Bolsa (the Copacabana gay beach) is the Excelsior. I like all of these because they're within walking distance of the beach, a couple of the saunas, local shopping, and the Metro. Getting to the gay beach in Ipanema, if you want to check that out, is easy: Just catch any bus on r. Barata Ribeiro heading towards Ipanema and get off at Praça Gral. Osorio (just as you enter Ipanema), Teixeira de Melo or Farme de Amoedo (depending on which bus you catch and where it stops). The gay beach is a block over at the foot of Farme, in front of the low, mirror-glassed building.

 

Before taking a guy to your room, please read my semi-world famous review on Brazilian Saunas in the Escorts Outside USA section for reasons why bringing "guests" to your room is not necessarily a good idea. Rio (and all other Brazilian cities) are well provided with "motels" which are short-stay love hotels. Take your new friend to one of those, where there won't be the temptation of your camera, credit cards, etc. sitting there. Also, the "motels" are designed for sex, so they are often better equipped for the purpose than your hotel (i.e., porno videos, mirrors, saunas/jacuzzis in the better units, etc.). An alternative is to take your date to one of the non-hustler saunas. However, you can get the all-in-one package at the saunas-with-boys, so you should definitely give them a try.

 

For Rio, your best bet for a website is http://www.netgay.com.br It's in Portuguese, but not to worry. Just click on "Escorts" for the obvious, then click on the icons for the agencies or the free-lancers. Click again on the names or photos to get further pictures/info. Click on "Hotéis/Motéis" and "Termas/Saunas" for those establishments, then click on the city or state in which they're located. "Bares" should be obvious, "Boates" is Brazilian for "Dance Club/Disco."
