That could very well be the case. Not having seen the original post that prompted this, I have to assume that Billyboy violated the rules: ie he revealed real names etc. Overreaction on Hoo's part? Perhaps, but what choice did he have?

By the way..does anyone have a picture of Billyboy? I'd love to be able to put a face to this drama.

I see that all of the forums are now listed as moderated forums. Why?

It has been my experience over the years that such a step almost always leads to a marked decline in posting and foreshadows the ultimate demise of a site, at least in its original format.

Unfortunately, I saw the original post that prompted all of this. BillyBoy downloaded entire threads from the Private Escort Forum. In a very misguided effort to discredit another escort he posted an entire thread from the private forum. (I didn't read the thread I glanced at it and then quickly realized that the thoughts expressed therein were none of my business.) He said that this would be the first of many similar posts. Since things that are said in private should stay that way, HooBoy really didn't have a choice.

Am I happy about Hoo's decision? No. Did he overreact? Perhaps. But like I said, he really didn't have a choice. This Board is a very valuable service. I've learned a lot and have met some great guys. I hope that it survives. I intend to stick around. Hopefully this too shall pass and things will be back to normal.

This was the only logical option at this time, thanks to the actions of primarily one person, Billyboy. Too bad one person's actions can affect us all, but for now, this is the way it has to be.

I am one of the volunteer moderators now. In his e-mail to me giving me instructions on how to do this job, Hooboy gave me the guidelines on approving messages: "The guidelines are logical: No slander, no libel, no revealing private or personal information." Otherwise, everything will be allowed.

Of course I too am sad to see that these forums must now be moderated.

I'm a little confused, though, about how the moderators can decide what counts as slanderous or libelous. Doesn't this presume that they know what is and isn't a lie (divine omniscience)? How can that be? How can the moderator differentiate between truth revealed with malicious intent vs. lies revealed with malicious intent?

I understand the need for the moderators now, but I'm just unclear on how you guys really intend to implement this. A measure of subjectivity is unavoidable, I would think. If that's how it has to be, fine, but I think everyone should understand that what is being filtered out is only posts which, in the honest assessment of the moderators, contain untruths.

Is this a fair way of characterizing the situation?

Anything borderline, we leave for Hooboy to decide; it's his site, and he can decide whether it should be allowed. Anything obvious, like Billyboy's posting of a private forum would not make it in. We volunteer moderators do not delete posts, we just decide whether to allow a post to go up right away. Hooboy decides whether to delete a post entirely (maybe Daddy, too; not sure about that!)

LAST EDITED ON May-13-01 AT 05:17PM (EST)[p]That is a fair way of characterizing the situation.

The Volunteer Moderators will leave any questionble material in the queue and I will make the determination to delete, if that is necessary - although I rather doubt I'll have to do that.

The utilization of multiple moderators is only so posts can get on in a timely fashion. It is unrealistic to expect me to sit on this thing 18 hours a day. This way, with several people moderating, you can be assured on only a small delay in seeing your post. (I typically check out the Message Center several times a day.)

BTW, The moderators have no other ADMIN capabilities other than seeing posts in the queue. They are not privy to anything other than that. The only ADMINs are Daddy-In-Training and myself.

I apologize for the inconvenience and I am very grateful to all who volunteered. At this time, I want to keep the number of volunteers to a minimum. Eventually, I may just make almost everyone a moderator! :-)

IMHO, there is no problem with posts if the people being discussed are anonymous.

Discussing someone using his M4M handle sounds safe.

Escorts, presumably, are using professional names so they are protected.

By the sounds of it, and I did not see the original post, Billyboy downloaded stuff with names. THAT needs filtering.

I, for one, applaud HooBoy for recognizing the need to moderate the boards at this point. Many inappropriate things have been posted lately -- not just subjective opinions, but vindictive slurs, the truth of which was usually impossible to discern. While it certainly upped the "drama" quotient here, I think it has actually made this a less interesting site. Hopefully with widespread knowledge that such BS posts are no longer going to be posted, people bent on doing that will go away.

Well, at least now i know that the little blue symbol isn't JUST an icon representing Hooboy :o)

Of course, I am a little bit disappointed at not being selected as a moderator <sniff, sniff> I'm feeling a little verklempt right now, just talk amongst yourselves...Okay, subject: what would it be like to have Billyboy, WorldEscort Sean and Kyle/Darrin all on Springer at the same time? Discuss.

Oh, it's like buttah!!!

Well, this would not have had to happen if everybody had moderated their own posts!:)

I must protest. I understand how ugly some of the exchanges were, but this is effectively killing this site. It aint what it used to be, and I fear many of the regular contributors are quiting this site. I too will be here a lot less if things do not change. I strongly object to my postings not going up quickly which they have not...

Johnny,

People's lives were being compromised and this place was becoming a free-for-all and potentially dangerous to a group of people whom privacy is of utmost importance.

You are someone I personally have respected and I am saddended that you do not understand why I am protecting everyone here.

If you elect to post, it will still go up in a matter of mintues to no less than a few hours. But you can be satisfied in knowing that a loose cannon will not be able to compromise your privacy or the privacy of anyone else here.

If you still do not agree with this policy...then I mis-read you.

Have a goodnight.

The posts are going up pretty quickly and I think it was a great idea. The message center is, for the most part, back to being dominated by sanity ("dominated"...hmmmm...where's Gino? I want to tag team a bottom hole with him...)(sorry, back to my point--->) Even tho some of the regular posters (and former ones dearly missed, such as Will) are now writing of their disillusionment, it's still a far cry from the bitter "yechiness" (isn't that a powerfully useful word?) of last week.

Before you throw out the baby with the bath water, consider this: posts are getting up pretty quickly. There are enough moderators (and I'm one of 'em) that there's really very little delay. The only time there will be a big delay is if a message violates our guidelines:

"No libel, no slander, no revealing private or personal information"

Any message in violation waits for HooBoy. Everything else sails right through.

Even before I became a moderator, I was sold because I noticed that my posts went up within an hour usually.

What's left?...trading cheesecake recipes?

Seriously, I think of this as a minor disturbance on an otherwise enjoyable cruise. A pirate ship came along and we had to cancel the Aloha buffet. Big Deal. The posts ARE going up at a phenomenal rate. These boys are working hard to make the intrusion is as slight as possible. Yes, there is incredible potential for abuse. Censorship is virtually impossible to control once it gets started. So far, Hooboy et al. seem to be very sensitive to this. Time will tell.

In the mean time all I want to know is can I get anyone a Margarita from the Lido Deck Bar and can I sit next to Rick Munroe at the Captain’s Dinner….smile.

Only if it involves cock cheese. :-)

And yes, you can bring me a Margarita from the Lido deck. (And bring me Matt as well, while you're at it. ;-))

Ooo, I've got a wonderful recipe to share. My granny's award winning Blue Ribbon Cheesecake. Here goes:

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

1 butter, melted

3 tablespoons sugar

3 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temp

1 cup sugar

3 eggs, room temp

1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled

1/8 teaspoon orange extract

Combine crumbs, butter and sugar. Press mixture evenly onto bottom and sides of a 9 inch springform pan.

Preheat oven to 450F. Beat together cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Blend in butter and orange extract. Turn mixture into pan and bake 15 minutes. Cool. Refrigerate at least 12 hours before serving chilled.

Your welcome!

Am I the only one who can't believe this queen actually took the time to post a cheesecake recipe?

I mean what’s next…show tune lyrics?...smile.

Now if I could just find that damn orange extract in my cabinet….

There's no business like show business

Like no business I know.

Everything about it is appealing;

Everything the traffic will allow.

Nowhere could you get that happy feeling

When you are stealing that extra bow.

There's no people like show people.

They smile when they are low.

Even with a turkey that you know will fold,

You may be stranded out in the cold.

Still you wouldn't trade it for a sack of gold.

Let's go on with the show

Let's go on with the show!

Repeat final chorus ad-nauseum.

And, call me a queen one more time and I'll beat you silly with a bundt cake :-)

Hey Hoo

How about this? Platinum membership for old timers! Meaning if you have been on the site for more than 6 months and have never been a trouble maker then your messages get put up automatically. I am not a tech guy and do not know if this is even feasible but if it is then it would be a great compromise! And you can also lose your platinum status after you have earned it in that if you abuse the privelege by abusing the spirit of the board your posts are then forever monitored! Thoughts on thsi Hoo? Love ya and all the work you do! Blu
