Rio 2nd week of May--any suggestions?

Hi,

 

I will be in Rio on business but hope to have some time for fun. I've read most of the reviews and searched these boards, does anyone have any updates or late-breaking news? I am interested in sex, guys, saunas, baths, cruising, hustlers, escorts, sex and more sex, then maybe some clubbing, and more sex. Any sites you can recommend so I can do research from home? Does Rio have strip bars or theatres like the Gaiety? Lap dancing? Where are the gay beaches?

 

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Gay beach is on the Copacabana end of Ipanema beach. Bofe Tada (the Spiritus of Rio) is a bar on a street perpendicular to the beach running from approximately the gay beach (Look for the McDonalds.) Visit it after the beach every day - usually lots of hot men. Fuel yourself with many caparinhas (sp?). Roger's Termas in Copacabana is a sauna full of rent boys. Any flavor you want. The ultimate candy store. Visit it at least twice daily. The sauna towards the lagoon side in Ipanema (Studio 64)has no rent boys, but lots of hot men. Visit this after Bofe Tada. Satyricon, in Ipanema, is one of the world's great restaurants - good food, great scene. Le Boy in Copacabana is a big disco. I understand a another big one has opened. Galeria Cafe in Ipanema is the only bar to go to. Very hot guys. Hope this helps.

PS. You can buy Peruvian fuel from the guys selling art made from soda bottles at the extreme Copacabana end of Ipanema beach.

 

PPS. Having lunch by the pool at the Copacabana Palace is a riot - very 60s jet set sceney.

Roger's Termas has private rooms and there was never less than 4 of us in the room at any one time. Cost was still only about a half Ricardo or a third Talvin, including the room. You did have to pay more to top them, and considering it amost never happened, they were tight as a drum. As you can see, I was doing my best to spread goodwill.

I assume you've read my somewhat world-famous review of the saunas under the Escorts Outside the USA heading. Still up to date, based on my check of Brazilian websites.

 

There are nude dancers at LeBoy and Incontrus discos in Copacabana. However, I agree with Traveller that in addition to the sauna with boys for rent like Roger's, you can often score at the other saunas, for free. Obviously it's not a sure thing, and if your time is limited, then I'd suggest Rogers or the Club 117. Go any day around 5:00 p.m. and stay 'til around 9:00 p.m. After that clients leave, the guys start going home, and everyone gets ready for the late-night action at the clubs.

 

Gay beach: Besides the gay beach at Ipanema you should check out the Copacabana gay beach. It's known as the Bolsa and is found at the foot of r. Fernão Mendes across from the Excelsior Hotel. The area between the Excelsior and the Copacabana Palace is our turf. Just look around you 'til you spot "our crowd" and stake out your spot on the sand. The Bolsa has a much more eclectic crowd than the gay beach in Ipanema, which runs more towards the golden youth of Rio. While extremely scenic they tend to be mainly interested in each other and flexing. The Bolsa has a wider range of ages and social classes, and some of the hunks will be available for a small consideration. Be aware that May is off-season, so during the week the beach will be fairly quiet unless there's a holiday. Saturday and Sunday will be packed if the weather is decent.

 

I can only echo that I, too, SO need to be in Rio! Have fun!

I notice a review of "Carlos" in the new reviews section. He's one I'll have to try on my next trip, considering my dimensional obsession!!! If you haven't checked the escorts section of http://www.netgay.com.br you should. Let's be grateful to the reviewer for indicating that someone who doesn't speak Portuguese can manage to use these agencies. I wasn't really sure how multi-lingual they are. At R$100 (US45) prices seem to be twice the going rate at the saunas (not that Carlos doesn't look like he's worth it!) and, of course, at the saunas you see exactly what you're getting before contributing towards some young gentleman's scholarship fund. Less chance of any bait 'n' switch. Still, this seems like another good option, and these agencies have been advertising for some time, so they appear to be well-established. Have fun and report back to everyone in great detail! :-)

Guess I should have been more clear:

 

No, there aren't any strip clubs (in the American sense) in Rio. There are go-go boys at some of the discos, like LeBoy or Incontrus, who peel down during the course of the evening. Some evenings there are strip shows at the baths (maybe at some of the bars, too); usually these are troupes of fairly pumped-up gym guys, many straight, who also do shows for birthdays, bachelorette parties, etc. Mostly they only strip down to their g-strings, which I find odd considering the setting, but after their number each will circulate through the audience and you can try to strike up an acquaintance. After tipping, of course. However, my observation is that they're not tremendously available, and also, though they're often very handsome and well-built, they're not necessarily that well hung, if that's an important criterion for you. (This may explain why they don't take it all off during their shows.)

 

If you check http://www.netboys.com.br look for the "go-go boys" button and see what you come up with. Personally, given all the other truly amazing options in Rio, I wouldn't waste my time trying to find a strip show, but if this is your thing, good luck and have fun! If you discover anything hot, be sure to post it for future visitors! :-)

If you can arrange for time-travel, try arriving in Rio during the mid to late-80's, when there was a very elaborate strip revue called "A Noite dos Leopardos" that played at the theater in the Galeria Alaska. Ah, the dear, departed days of the Galeria Alaska, one of the truly great trashy venues of the planet. But I digress. The "Leopardos" extravaganza was hosted by the world-famous (at least in Brazil) Rogêria, one of the country's leading drag artistes, who managed to get her hands on a never-ending supply of stunning hunks in over-stuffed Speedos. These revues consisted of a series of drag acts interspersed with choreographed numbers with the hunks, who progressively wore less and less as the evening moved along. The culminating grand finale consisted of a all the guys naked on stage, erections bobbing away like a Rockettes line of cocks! The audience was invited to vote for their favorites: best ass, best cock, best over-all, Mr. Congeniality, and, at the end, come up on stage and give a champagne bath to their favorite (pouring a bottle of champagne over him and licking at least some of it off). The artists could be met in their changing rooms after the show, and deals could be made. Many of these young men went on to find fame, if not fortune, in the oeuvre of Kristen Bjorn. :-)

 

If you're truly dying for a South American strip extravaganza, and can extend your visit to Buenos Aires, a club called Gasoil does have elaborate strip shows, usually on Thursday nights. Check for details in the local NX magazine, or "La Otra Guia." Again, these shows are in the style of a revue, not guys dancing on top of a bar. . . However, you can meet the guys after the show, and some of the alumni of previous shows hang around the bar in the hope of making new acquaintances. In the last few years the shows have featured guys who are very, very pumped up; more so than I personally prefer (I like the tight, defined, natural build you see everywhere on the beaches in Brazil or the soccer fields of Argentina) but if muscles appeal to you, you'll enjoy Gasoil. Note that like everything else in Buenos Aires, the shows there start VERY late, like 1:00 - 2:00 a.m., so do your sightseeing and have a serious disco nap before heading out for the night. Otherwise you'll never stay awake for the show!
