Seek advice on where to stay. Want a place with air conditioning, close to the beach, not expensive that will allow local overnight guests. Don’t plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel room, so not into luxury. Safe, clean with the basics.

Any other advise concerning the boys in Puerto Vallarta would be appreciated.

Also looking for travel companion. Someone 45-??, for a long weekend in late February or early March. Leave Thursday (maybe late Wednesday) and return on Monday. Want someone that can pay their own way. Separate hotel rooms. All my other traveling buddies have found new mates and are not interested in traveling.

I am 51, 5’10”, 165lbs. Live in San Francisco.

I use to stay downtown Puerto Vallarta at the Playa Los Arcos. One the sweetest hotels in Mexico, nice staff, good dining room, good mix of people (i.e., not all North Americans) with many Mexican families staying. As for overnights, not sure since I was traveling with a women friend and agreed not to compete for the men.

Check out the guidebooks such as Frommers, Fordora maybe even the Let's Go Guide. I think the web address might be: http://www.losarcoshotel.com or http://www.losarcos.com sorry but their most recent address is on my computer at work.

Staying downtown Puerto Vallarta seems like old Mexico.

Enjoy, sorry I can travel with you!

Thanks,

Tom

Guest looking for latinos

I hear that the Playa los Arcos is not gay friendly. Guests, especially Mexican guys, are not welcome. There are dozens of gay resorts in PV. Check any gay guide for info. Que tengas buen viaje.

I have been to Puerto Vallarta three times, the last time in November 2000. The last time I also stayed at the Playa Los Arcos, because it's conveniently located half-way between the gay beach and the best gay bar, Paco-Paco (there are lots of gay bars in PV, though). This was a big mistake. You will definitely not be allowed to bring guests, least of all Mexican guests. I met this really wonderful guy there, Marco-Antonio, who was NOT an escort (I obviously have nothing against escorts, but this guy never charged me a penny). Well, anyways, he was so afraid of the hotel, he wouldn't even wait for me on the same side of the street when we were hooking up (we got together almost every day I was there).

I asked him to suggest better places to stay for my next trip over there. He suggested the Torre de Oro. I visited their rooms and they are gorgeous. They all have A/C, phone, cable TV, kitchenette, living room, and many have ocean view. I happenned to visit room 302. A higher floor would have views. Anyways, it's about 3 blocks from the gay beach, and within 5 blocks of most of the bars. Their e-mail address is torreoro@prodigy.net.mx. Their address is Pulpito 138 Col Emiliano Zapata, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.

Another option, which is right on the gay beach, but 3 blocks further from the bars is the Tropicana, where a could friends of mine stayed. Feel free to send me a note if you have other questions about the town.

Last time I was in PV, November as well, I stayed at Costa Azul http://www.costaazul.com/

and it's very fun and quite gay friendly. It's 30 minutes outside of PV, innexpensive, very laid back, and for jocks like me there is no end to the activities they plan. But if you'd like to just lie around and observe the frogs trying to sneak into the pool (this is a jungle after all) you'll feel entirely comfortable doing so with another man (or men). Have fun.
