LAST EDITED ON Jan-24-01 AT 00:33 AM (EST)

My local paper recently reported that a retired Superior Court judge was literally caught with his pants down when the cops showed up to conduct an undercover sting operation at a suspected brothel. He was booked on misdemeanor charges (so were several alleged prostitutes and the owner of the "massage parlor") and State pension officials were quoted that his pension could actually be affected by the outcome of his case. (That's scary and unfair!) According to the article, the cops began to suspect that that there was a brothel in their midst after neighbors started to complain about people showing up at their front doors at all hours of the day and night. (This is actually the second time, in as many years, that the newspapers reported that the authorities stumbled upon a brothel, in my area, because of "clients" showing up at the wrong locations.) Many escorts do in and out calls. Many clients (myself included) prefer to do incalls. Although one or two guys working out of an apartment are not going to attract the same level of business as a brothel, there's still the chance that a client will show up for a scheduled midnight appointment and ring the wrong bell! Even if your clients manage to show up at the right door, there's still going to be a lot of people coming and going from your apartment at all times of the day. How do escorts who work out of their apartments -- manage to do their jobs and keep the neighbors from suspecting what's going on behind closed doors?

The (Newark, NJ) Star-Ledger and the(Bridgewater, NJ)Courier-News. The alleged incident was reported one day last week. (I think that it was on Jan. 18th but don't hold me to that.) The Star-Ledger's article contained the quotes about the judge's pension. The suspected brothel was located in North Plainfield, NJ. (North Plainfield is an older, middle class suburb of New York) The earlier incident, was in the Convent (its named after an actual convent!) section of Morris Township, NJ. Convent is a very upscale suburb of New York and the alleged brothel was located in a mansion. The alleged madam was a former Playboy Bunny. She must not be very bright because the Star-Ledger reported about six months or so ago that she was arrested on prostitution charges while on probation for the earlier incident.

Odd thought - Join the neighborhood watch committee. Escorts have just as many Gladys Kravitz genes as any other occupation, taken as a group. And just as much need to make sure that their community is safe from crimes with victims. And even more need to make sure that the watch doesn't start watching for victimless crimes. And its always a bit harder to pick on someone who is in there pitching along with the rest of the group. Heck, although an escort might have to cancel at some awfully late hours, he can make it up by having more hours available to begin with. And it will make it handy for you to pitch your cover story to just the right ears. I gotta admit I've never tried this myself, but why wouldn't it work?
