Former rentboy, whose only "in the light of the day" work experience is as a coffee shop counter clerk, "hooks up" as a "hire" with the heir to a New york City real estate fortune some forty years his senior. In the course of a fabulous sojourn on Palm Beach, they get "hitched", that is, legally married. A year later, the young man has filed a petition in Palm Beach for a conservatorship over his "husband" on the grounds of "early onset dementia" and "chronic prohibited substance abuse".

And which of the two are you?

We need names... Don't we?

I blame that Netflix series on the subject (of which I was previously unaware). The young man was foolish to be in such a hurry - he should have waited until he’d had a trust fund established in his favour.

has retained counsel, …a "white shoe" firm, and filed for an annulment of the marriage.

Good to see that “old money” still has clout. Tell me @robberbaron4u has this story been picked up yet by The New York Post?

Well, it is not particular "old money", but it is a tanker, not a barrel, of money; the "john" is only one generation removed from the haberdashery shop which seeded the family's real estate empire. Interestingly, the john first filed for an annulment last year when he discovered that the hire was entertaining young women in his absence in their home; after "meditation" by which the "hire" represented that he "be good" and "not stray from the marriage bed", the john dropped the proceeding. Bad behavior on the part of the hire, who repesents himself as "bi-sexual", continued and he had a window of time to pursue the conservatorship to protect his own interests;  unlike a divorce, an annulment precludes  any financial settlement on the young man. The john then reinstated his annulment petition which, to my understanding, has been granted. It is back to Brooklyn and the coffee shop for the lad.

Well there does not seem to be a hero in this story.  Why didn't the old guy just buy him off for the annulment. Is there no decency in deception any longer?   John gets free and the escort gets a pay day, that is the old fashioned way.

In the course of the "courting period", the escort received a monthly stipend of $10,000 and the free use of an upscale apartment; the "engagement gift" was a $30,000 cello. Whilst married, he enjoyed an affluent lifestyle: first-class travel, fine dining, designer clothing, and, yes, a daily session with a masseuse; too, residence in a landmark NYC townhouse and a Palm Beach condo was decidely a "move up" from the basement apartment of his parent's Brooklyn house.

Wow! I sincerely wish I had sufficient resources to treat my current bisexual sugar-baby/FWB that well financially!!!! And if he entertained women at my place, I would pay him extra if I could watch/participate!

Classic! I’d love to know who the old man is.

"Naming names" is, of course, an unthinkable act. However, the "rentboy" of reference was discussed in The Deli forum under the post "411 Alex Summit NYC" by Ross06 in 2013. Lesson learned: Keep your change purse snapped shut and close to your person.

Well he certainly made him want to stay and now, as the old saying goes, he should pay him to leave.

This story sounds par for the course. How many countless stories have I read on the internet of “senior citizens “ who have been ripped off by young lovers after thinking they have found “true love.”

You’re right @purplekow that is the easy option. I find it intriguing, however, that so rarely does the older man do that once the relationship turns sour.

In this regard, I think especially of the ex-chief of BP, John Browne. Shortly before he was due to retire from BP, news emerged in the media of his escort-boyfriend. The young man had returned to Canada and being short of funds, he was interested in the offer by a major newspaper to pay for his ‘story’. Instead of helping him, Browne took legal action to prevent publication. In the course of this, Browne was found to have lied to the Court. He had to resign in disgrace from various boards, forfeited millions in stock options and bonus pay from BP etc. Yet if he had helped the young man to make a new life in Canada (by renting an apartment for him, giving him an allowance for a year, paying his tuition fees etc), it would have cost him only a few thousand.

You've probably heard some here, people asking if they should take in a handsome, young guy who just needs a little help getting started.

I had a gorgeous NYC-based regular named “Dylan” around 2004-2005. He moved in with a Wall Street mogul in his senior year of high school. It lasted about 18 months. The financier gave him a $100k severance package and paid the rent for a 3-year lease in an Upper East Side studio. They parted on excellent terms. There’s a smart way to conclude these flings.
