Most Ever Won on a Scratch-Off Ticket?

When playing scratchers in NY, be careful as to whether the top prize has already been claimed.  It infuriates me that you could buy a scratcher that says the top prize is $1,000,000 and yet, there are no top prizes left to win in that game.  Sure, you could win a smaller prize, but that's not really why people would buy that ticket.

Check before you buy... Prizes remaining on any particular scratcher can be checked at:  https://nylottery.ny.gov/scratch-off-games

Illinois does the same thing.  Good thing about unclaimed prize list is you can see how few top prizes there are to begin with.

They are a staple at our family Christmas gathering as well.  This year, between about 12 of us, the largest win was $20 and a few smaller wins for $5.  About five years ago, I won $10,000,000 on a scratch off which was incredible, but I have never one even a single dollar after that (I only play them when I get them as gifts, never buy them on my own).  Happy Holidays!

Wuite a shame that thinly time you have won it was 10 million dollars.  That is a shame that you could not win more often.   I see you corrected it to 10000 dollars.  Not a bad haul but not an amount that would generate a sarcastic reply from me.

My first job was working at a store that sold and cashed NY lottery tickets. The most I ever won was $25 but I despise scratchers because they make a mess and I think they’re annoying and needlessly complicated.

The largest I was ever asked to cash was $25,000.00. We couldn’t give out more than $600, but he asked me to scan it to confirm it was a winner. The machine said something along the lines of claimant must mail or go to the lottery office for winnings, and it printed out a congratulations message with instructions on how to redeem. He was so excited. We got a little sign from the lottery that said we had a $25k winner and our lottery sales went way up for about 3 weeks.

Not a scratch-off, but......  back when I worked up in Washington State, I would get a Lotto ticket on Fridays after work on my way home, at the Quik Stop station across the road. One of the cashiers there was the twin sister of a high school buddy, who became a former buddy after a misinterpretation on my part of a camping invitation one weekend- nothing ventured nothing gained, but "S", I would have rocked your seventeen-year-old world! In any case, female "S" managed to be friendly enough to me at the store, so maybe male "S" kept the indiscretion to himself, who knows.

One Friday, I gassed up and bought my ticket. Got up on Sunday morning, made brekky and read the paper- pulled out that ticket and checked it. #1 match, #2 match, # 3 match, # 4 match, # 5 match, aaaaannnnnddd #6 is one number off! I think that it's as close as you can get to the win- but instead of 8 million, the ticket was worth $1200. Not a bad prize, but so close to the big money- Still don't know if that was the fates telling me that was as close as I'd get to winning, or to keep trying! In any case, I cashed out the ticket at the lottery office the next day - $950, after taxes. When I deposited the check, I took $100 back in cash.

A few days later, I stopped at the Quik Stop, and she was working- I grabbed a cup of coffee and a KitKat and went up to the counter to get rung up. Opened my wallet to grab a fiver, slipped the hundred into my palm, and as we chatted after she cashed me out, I said, "By the way, S, you sold me a winner last week, and this is for you" and handed her the $100 bill. She gasped, turned away and started quietly sobbing. Turns out, she needed $75 dollars for the next day, to pay for her kid's school pictures, and she was ready to go without them this year, as her ex-husband was behind on support payments.

So, at least the fates made it clear that day, ya gotta share the wealth!

Scratch offs, lottery, and all forms of government-run gambling are prohibited by the Nevada constitution, so alas I've never played scratch offs or the lottery.

I take it you've never made the half-hour drive to the Lotto store just across the California state line.  The Powerball jackpot is up to $1 billion (yes, with a "b").  Mind you, you'll probably wait in line for 3+ hours to buy a ticket.

Correct, I never have.  That would be a 100 mile drive roundtrip, for a 1 in 10Billion chance to win only $1Billion, then it would be subject to California's millionaire income tax!   A much better use of my time and money would use the $20 I would have spent on petrol to invest in my Roth IRA, or use it to add to the tip of one of my upcoming massage or escort hires 😁

Or, I could stay local and play the Megabucks slot machines.  Better odds at winning, and the tax dollars supports my local economy.

I bought some powerball these last few drawings. Not going overboard though as I'd rather play games where I actually have a chance to win something. Be fun to win though and give out a million bucks to so many friends and family members and still have hundreds of millions left over. 💰

though the lottery is definitely a tax on fools, with the big jackpot I was feeling foolish on Halloween and today and bought 2 x $20 in Powerball quickpick draws (ten tries each).......nothing on Halloween (scattered single numbers) and the draw was just made for tonight, but haven't checked.....I wish somebody would win so I can go back to not being a fool......just let me win $40 and I'll be happy.....

I might go over the border later today to get a Powerball ticket in New York state. With the exchange rate a winning would be over $1 billion Canadian in cash.

I only bought a ticket once when the prize was something like a couple hundred millions. I hardly ever buy a lottery ticket but a boy can dream about the big one.

I think there is an app now…Jackpot? They buy the ticket for you and scan it into the app so you can see your numbers.  Havent used it and not sure it will work if you are outside of the USA.

I think the app is called Jackpocket - they advertise on the NYC subway.

I won $80 on a $1 scratch off the other day. My biggest win on a $1 ticket. I looked up the odds on the NY lotto website and I only had a 1 in 3,000 chance of winning that amount.

An 18 year old woman in Canada purchased her first ever lottery ticket several weeks ago and won $48M Canadian on our Lotto 649 draw.  Not a scratch ticket, but the chances of winning on your first purchase must be ridiculously minuscule - the chances for any 649 jackpot are about 14 million to one....

For the record, the odds are actually a bit better than 1 in 300million. Still gonna get struck by lightning a dozen times before winning, but I still play when there are big jackpots. 😁

Back to the OP, I won $100 on a $5 scratch a few years ago. But biggest percentage win was at a bingo hall, where I won $300 on a 50-cents pulltab.
