November 2021- Is the demand down?

We were surprised when the lockdown came off and there was a sudden huge spike in rates in the spring but all my escort/masseur friends are telling me the demand is very slow now, In the US and Europe.

• Did we already spend all that money we saved up during the worst of the pandemic?
• Will good-looking guys start showing up working at McDonalds?

The pandemic is far from over. If you've been watching the news, you'll see that in the U.S., infection rates are increasing for the winter, and European countries are already locking down again.

Personally, my demand is down too - there was only a 3 month window this year where I was in Chicago and hiring. And I don't fall for increased pricing - 300 an hour is too high already, as far as I'm concerned.

I meant when the hard lockdown came off after the decline and guys started hiring like crazy and rates soared. I think most people with vaccines are still willing to hire but from what I hear clients are getting scarce. The market has swung like......

I'm still hiring but only once a month for a weekend of 2 or 3 providers. That's because I have to travel now to the big neighbouring cities rather than have them come to see me in my small town. 

We'll see what the winter brings.

I can confirm. I'm preparing for Holidays and rather allocating money for presents and saving up for a potential (not yet decided) trip to the US to try the local menu but still waiting to see how the landscape looks like after the boosters are adopted, both in the US and Canada. We are also having a spike in new cases even in double vaccinated people.

Euro visitors in nyc are still asking for 400 plus Uber. Meanwhile my regular 350 guy is worried I’m no longer interested..

I got both vaccine shots and came down with covid AND influenza A at the same time! Pretty darn sick but never hit my lungs. I would have been a gonner. With congestive heart failure there would have been no way my heart would have been strong enough. Did the vaccine help keep me alive?  A friend of mine had both grandparents die within 9 days of each other from covid... they were both double vaccinated. Not as fortunate an outcome as mine.

What people don't understand is that this so called "vaccine" is only gonna give your immune system a head start against a COVID-19 infection. It doesn't actually prevent you from catching it. So hire at your own risk if you're not otherwise healthy.

Indeed, it's was a long stretch without human touch and, in my opinion, too much substitution of just porn and OnlyFans. Socialization is important. Certainly when the lockdown eased and clients had saved-up cash there was a "hiring surge" but what I'm hearing from friends is it's now substantially below normal, even where covid is low.

I have a number of Euro friends who ask about coming over because the market is down in Europe but I don't know what to tell them. I do know it's unusually slow in DC right now and in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago and Atlanta. I've always advised NY/DC/LA but now not so sure even of that. I'd hate for Pavel to come over and no one want to see him.

It's my birthday, and I logged in to post on this topic, only to find this thread already started.  I totally resonate with the comments here.  Have been a conscientious public health warrior, staying home, working from home, with boring but good results.  Haven't even had a cold or flu for 2 years now, which is how long its been since I've scheduled an adventure with anyone offering fun. But god, its dull.  Totally bored with porn and other virtual outlets.

BUT at the same time, the rate of new infections is up 25% in the last week alone here in Chicago.  So, I'm going to ride this birthday out -- again -- with no new party partners. 

Empathize with the service providers though, if their market is down.  Though the OnlyFans, etc., market is way up, right?  Probably safer that way for them too, yes?

This is an interesting thread and still early enough that I can agree with everything that has been posted.

For myself, COVID and all the changes it wrought seemed to have wrecked my libido and desire to hire. I was lucky and was able to be fully vaccinated by end of February because of my work. Even vaccinated I haven't had much desire to hire. I was struggling to come out when HIV first emerged and my own caution kept me from acting on my desires for 7 years. Now, it seems like meeting up with some rando-guy who has met with who knows how many other guys in the last 5-7 days (who may or may not be vaccinated0 and who could be asymptomatically infected isn't worth the risk, just as all the unknowns about HIV were for me in the 1980s.

Also, Zoom meetings have replaced all the work travel that I used to do. I used to love surveying and choosing who was available in the cities on my itinerary. The other compounding matter, which has been topics of other threads and off-topic for this one, is that the current fashion of "look" of so many masseurs and escorts is off-putting instead of attractive for me. So, now I am very occasionally having massages with masseurs who I have been seeing for years. One masseur, who I've known for a long time, and I are having energetic sex when we get together - he says that he is so horny because he doesn't want to hook up with some random person. So I am taking selective risks. But I wouldn't sample the wares on the city-by-city itineraries that I did pre-2020.

I keep on thinking about what our new world looks like. The virus is endemic now. New variants are going to emerge because of various factors. So how we conduct our personal lives post-vaccination is a matter of choice. (But get the damn vaccine!. Moderna or Pfizer). As gymowner experienced and public_assistance commented, the vaccine offers very significant risk-reduction from severe COVID but does not protect from infection. The older you and other factors (compromised immune system) reduces the efficacy of protection.  Some of my friends have lost 80- and 90-year old relatives who were fully vaccinated but still died from long-COVID. My late 20-something cousin and his wife both vaccinated, both have COVID now - they work in an office in a red state, seeing customers and nobody was wearing a mask.

I think, maybe fatalistically, that for everybody who is going to live some semblance of life as it was pre-2020, we all have a date with this virus. I'm just not rushing to hook up with it.

I vividly remember hiring last summer(2020) when cases were low in Canada and there was no vaccine. I took several chances with providers both having them visit me for overnights or weekends and me doing the same in Toronto where I would go. 

I would go through mental agonies when I thought about it for two weeks afterwards wondering if I caught it. The clouds would lift on the 14th day or so when I realized I was in the clear. 

Since the vaccines, I have continued to hire on the same basis except I have added Montreal to the itinerary. I don't worry so much as I try to reassure myself that if I catch it it will be less severe. But I am in the older group but healthy relatively for my age. I've got good lungs having never smoked and still swim vigorously several times a week.

Happy birthday! I’m very sorry that you have to enjoy it without partaking in this hobby, and perhaps without other forms of intimate human touch. I hope you find a way to enjoy yourself soon within acceptable risk parameters.

Pavel's very real...he's Steve Skarsgard on Bel Ami and Romeo/Hunqz. Several of us here, like @liubit , are good friends of his. Super nice 23 yr old, lives in Prague and travels northwest Europe.

I think the escorting world died out five years ago actually.  It's just not the same as it was 10 years ago in 2011 and by 2016, you start to see it just decline altogether.  When they shut down Rentboy, that did a lot of harm to this industry.  The stigma associated with it and the decline in Sex in general in America, but also COVID did a number on everything.  It's hard selling your body during a Plague... and maybe this is the new normal, that the escorts are subpar, there isn't a lot of demand from younger generations for sex workers, and it's just too damn fucking expensive for everyday people.  You've literally got to be making at least $100,000 to hire these men.  That $300 hourly rate's going to go up too - up to $500 or $1,000 for just one hour.  Gay guys have it easy.  It's a lot more expensive in the straight world.  I just don't see muscular hunks on Rentmen that much anymore - all the old ones retired and they have not been replaced with a new stable of studmuffins... they're either at home playing video games, at their gyms working out to tease us and make us feel sad because we can't get fucked by them, or they're in the Middle East of all places (which I'm sorry but sucks and I don't think any American should go to any country in the ME that is not Israel).

I would definitely be interested in hiring Pavel (aka "Steve") if his price were right.  Maybe I’d even fly him out to the Aest Coast for a couple of nights.  He definitely pushes all my buttons!
