Hello to the few providers still surviving in this forum. I have a question for you. I am NOT asking whether or not you have hired another escort. I am asking, specifically, have you ever hired another provider with professional development purposes?

Per example, you hire someone NOT because you find him/her attractive (although there is no problem if attraction is present) but because you want to learn a specific skill and this person is an expert. Or perhaps you are not looking for coaching, but just to experience something that can only be delivered by this person. Any hire with an educational/exploratory purpose is IN. Hires to fuck because you like them, are OUT. "Mentor" relationships where a more experienced professional trains a newbie are also OUT. We must have a conventional contract where money is exchanged.

If you respond yes, would you be so kind to share some details of your learning journey?

I was chatting to a guy just yesterday on this (sort of). He would work a second shift to help protect the younger escorts. This was a different era of street work (the wall).

The idea and concept sounds constructive on the surface, but unfortunately it's just not common enough to actually be reality.

It's interesting because I see someone looking at that idea from a client point of view, which sounds compelling to the client because that's generally what they would seek. 

My personal opinion: despite the fact that I do wish more gay male escorts worked together and had a sort of "chippendales" camaraderie going on...I don't necessarily advise it anymore to have a mentor or someone "showing" the ropes.

To me escorting is like driving: everybody has their style of driving. Just because someone "knows" how to drive, doesn't mean they should be a driving instructor though. You have to learn through experience, and actually understand the fundamental laws and concepts.

Otherwise an escort can hire whoever and get whatever advice. Doesn't mean that'll make him successful or a good driver. 

I even had a falling out with one popular escort/porn guy because he was receptive to mentoring me, and I encouraged it to develop, but he didn't really appreciate my views on certain things and had a COMPLETELY different philosophy on certain things relating to sex. After that I realized that everybody going to work differently, and it's really not a one size fits all.

One can hire a guy for advice, but there's plenty of porn and free grindr guys out there to practice and learn from lol. I allow myself a freebie hookup every so often, to keep myself attuned to sex in a non biz context.

I’ve escort friends who I work with. I’ve picked up lots of ideas and information from them over the years.

The guy who suggested I start out doing sex work gave me plenty of advice about pricing, where to advertise, how to handle difficult clients etc. It wasn’t advice on how to have sex and entertain clients (I think that to a large extent is innate) but it was advice on the business side of things, which was great. 

We all have different approaches to sex and the escort friends I have do things differently to me but when we work together it’s a good combination, and we are into each other (we have non work sex together) so I think that comes across to the clients. However I don’t have the same style as them and if I tried to copy them it wouldn’t come off. I agree with Jarrod that everyone has to find their own approach. It’s very much a thing that has to be natural to you otherwise clients will find you perfunctory.

I have been hired numerous times over the course of 20 years to mentor various Service Providers. I’ve also been hired as medical advocate for both Clients and Providers. Additionally, I’ve been hired as a counselor of sorts to help with several Client/Provider relationships that were ongoing and transitioning into civilian relationships~ 
 Some of these mentorship’s were in person and one on one… others hired me to assist them with their Client and still others were strictly via texting and emails.
