When I first had a steady job, during my medical residency, I saved $2000 a year, the most one could then save, into an IRA account (ages 25, 26, 27). I've kept that money in a separate account, which I had to do because that IRA money, unlike my subsequent donations, was a deductible IRA. That account's worth well over $60,000 already, and I don't plan to tap into it for at least another decade. Not a massive sum, but just shows what compounding can do.

I was drafted into the Army in June 1967 and served in The United States and Southeast Asia until is was discharged in June 1969.

Army pay was extremely low for enlisted personnel. Until I was permanently employed in early 1970, I worked in supermarket in Natick, Massachusetts every Doug Flutie  lived (a child then).

But, I was lucky because of a pension and disability from the VA

Isn't he a young guy? How many young people save money, no matter the profession?

I know a number of escorts who were very goal focused.  I helped a few with investments so I know how much they saved.

One escort managed to save over a million dollars BUT he worked his butt off doing it.  He was a Gaiety “dancer” back in the day so seeing 5 or 6 guys a day was not unusual for him.😱. Being paid in cash was helpful, too.

Hard work and being focused on saving money can be done.  Others I know ended up with nothing due to their spending habits.

It really comes down to the individual person.  You are right that the profession does not make a difference.

Rates in this industry have been long overdue for a raise for a very long time.  Escort rates did NOT rise with inflation.  Anyone who is increasing their rates suddenly may have simply realized that they are LONG overdue to give themselves a raise and have had a realistic conversation with themselves about how much they need to charge for it to feel worth their while.

I do really agree with the sentiment also that many clients take rates way too personally.  Although I would be more likely to negotiate with an old regular the old fashioned way over a rate increase than to draw a hard line in the sand, ultimately, asking a regular to pay a new rate is a relationship-preserving move. After some time receiving a new rate from other clients, seeing someone at a lower rate can start to feel bad, like we are doing the same amount or more work for less money every time we see them, which is a feeling that adds up over time even if we brush it off at first.  Clients who pay the new rate grow with us and allow us to grow as individuals and professionals just like in any other line of work where someone would advance and get raises.

The observation about supply and demand is also VERY real!  My minimum session fee starts at $400 now myself, and I can’t tell you how downright furious some guys get with me after I quote them!  Furious and abusive!  They take it SO personally that I charge what I do and unleash a barrage of insults about how I’m not “worth” that much or how stuck up I must be.  Really- they are taking it way too personally when it’s literally an issue of supply and demand.  I was charging less just 4-6 months ago and I was WAY busier than I actually wanted to be.  To the point where I would ignore good inquiries because I was worn out and the money didn’t feel worth the effort that day... I needed days off.  Now I charge more and my calendar fills up sufficiently at this rate to satisfy both my available time/energy and my financial needs.  Simple supply and demand.

The rise in escort/masseur rates seems logical and inevitable considering the continuing rise of the cost-of-living expenses.  I can't speak for other clients, but the continuing rise of the cost-of-living expenses has certainly curtailed (sharply) my participation in the "game."

It is unfortunate that there is not a discreet method for escorts to display their rates in their advertising.  A clear statement of their rates in their ads would (should) stop, or at least decrease, calls from potential clients who are either not prepared to or are unwilling to meet their price point(s).

I feel for the OP @asdsrfr. It’s never nice to have a regular service-provider ask for more for the same level of service.  I wonder if the OP’s feelings have been hurt, thinking that the two of them had more of a connection?

As others have remarked, it’s simply business and a matter of supply and demand. I think the young man could have handled this better and been more tactful and polite.

Personally I value loyalty. I’ve been a loyal customer of the same high-quality food store for decades, and I’ve been a client of 2 wine merchants for 40 and 35 years respectively. I’ve also patronized 4 restaurants regularly since they first started. I know they all like and value me as a regular customer, but alas all their prices have risen steadily over the years. I enjoy eating and drinking well but I can’t in 2021 do so at prices that prevailed in 1990 or 2000 😀

Could not agree more.

I agree that I really wish we could post rates. A lot of other escort sites out there allow it, but unfortunately RM does not.  I did add a line at the bottom of my ad stating that “I prefer quality over quantity and charge accordingly”.  Hopefully that will at least stop the guys who are looking for a basement bargain from wasting their time and mine.  I think because I look so young I still get a lot of guys messaging me who think they’re going to be able to talk me into spending the night with them for what turns out to be less than my two hour rate...

If anyone can think of an even less offensive way to phrase this please let me know.  The quality over quantity phrase does ring true to my personal experience as I can definitely give higher quality service when I only meet a few clients a week than when I meet one or more every day.  Don’t want to come off rude tho.  Just clear.

Yikes... I hope most professionals would never modify the donation for their time based on a client's physical appearance.

I've had this happen. An escort quoted me his price and then told me that I also had the option of sending him photos of myself to see if he would give me a discount based on how attractive he thought I was. I declined to respond.

That's awful.  Is this individual still advertising?  Could you send me a DM?

Are you aware that the link you include with your posts ( https://rent.men/HoleStimulus ) reaches a non existent ad?

Just curious why you include a link that does not work.

It's being discussed in another thread. They do realise (now), having asked where signatures had gone. Signatures are not visible in the phone version of the site and there doesn't appear to be a way of entering or editing a signature from the mobile version.

This is where their ad is now https://rent.men/FFHoleWhisperer

When you say "they," are you talking about the administrators of this forum?

No, he’s talking about me, using a gender-neutral pronoun.  Or at least I assume that’s why “they” is being used since it’s clear that I’m a singular person hopefully.  😉

I’m on tour right now and left my laptop at home on purpose so I wouldn’t work thru the weekend.  I will update the link in my signature as soon as I can get to a computer because I can’t figure out how to access signatures from mobile.

(will include this link at the bottom of my posts until then)

When I included the link it worked and I’ve changed my Rentmen handle since then is all.  With the forum reorganization I haven’t been able to figure out how to edit my signature.  I can’t even see signatures from my phone so wasn’t aware that the old link was showing for desktop users until yesterday.

One other thing I will say about rates for sessions is if a someone is a regular hire of mine and they don't give me any updates on their rate when I book them for subsequent sessions, I operate under the assumption the price is the same as our last meeting if the time I am booking is the same amount. So far, I have had no issues with this.

...

If that's the case, that made the sentence confusing to read. Maybe you have dissociative identity disorder?😉 James McAvoy was great in that Split movie...

I don't think that the OP is expecting 1990 or even 2000 prices.  He is talking about a rate doubling overnight.  Big difference.  If you walked into your favorite diner and that hamburger that you paid $18 for yesterday was $36 today, I suspect that you would be a little upset.  I generally raise the prices at my business on an annual basis, more or less frequently if economic conditions warrant, but I can honestly say that I've never doubled my prices overnight and without warning.  That being said, any service provider - whether a lawyer, masseur, housecleaner, or anything else - can set his own prices, and it is up to the end consumer to decide if the service being offered by that service provider is worth the price being charged.  As a rule, I never try to "bargain" with a masseur or escort.  Their price is their price.  I feel like if I ask for a rate that is 25% below what they guy is asking for, he may agree, but he won't be happy about it and I may well end up getting 25% less service.  If the asking price seems too high for the service provider and type of service, I just say "thanks, have a nice evening" and I move on.

I'd be upset paying $18 for a hamburger, let alone $36... 🤣

You probably don't live in LA!  An $18 hamburger is cheap these days.

Nope... couple of hours outside Toronto - nothing over $12 within 100km...lol.  I wouldn't mind paying the LA prices (even in US dollars) if it's good.  The best burger I ever had was over $30, years ago in Vancouver, with braised short rib meat and pan-seared fois-gras on top of the burger patty.... so good.

Its funny, now that I am in my Golden Years, I spend more time thinking about paying for "long-term" care (should it be needed), than I do about carnal entertainment.

How sad is that ?  ☹️
