I'm hardly the person to judge these questions as I have only met one transgendered person and that was in the 1970's. He went from being Stephen to Stephanie and had a sex reassignment which removed his penis and gave him a vagina. Like Christine Jorgenson a decade earlier, if anyone here remembers her.

I consider these people as having fully transitioned from one sex to the other. And the other way around if it is a woman who acquires a penis in the process of sex reassignment.

Just looked her up on wikipedia and youtube and I find her story fascinating. I'm pleasantly surprised by how accepting society was of her at the time.

I haven't looked her up but simply remember her appearing on television one night in Montreal (it was black and white TV I think) and telling her story. I was young and impressionable and I took it all in, the wonder of it that modern medicine could achieve a sex change. My parents were watching too but I don't remember what conversation we had afterwards. If any.

I remember being interested in the Christine Jorgensen story, which was in the news when I was at a very impressionable age. It was when I first began to realize that I would like to have sex with males, but I thought one had to be female to do that. Once I understood that was not true, I lost any interest in transitioning.

So interesting you thought that, Charlie! A decade ago I watched this documentary called "Be Like Others" which is about sex change operations in Iran. They're completely legal. Trailer below. In the doc, a few men who consider themselves homosexual are willing to undergo this surgery so they may finally have sex with men without being persecuted.

Please excuse me if I'm wrong but then he didn't transition.

I understand transitioning as the person having surgery for their sexual organs to resemble those of the opposite sex.

In this case he became a Trans woman, known by most people as a She-male. What I would like to know is if someone born male, who later in life identifies as a female - no surgery, can actually change their gender in their ID, Passport, and other legal documents. I know that in some countries this is only possible after sex reassignment surgery.

Not necessarily.  Transitioning can include hormone treatments to alter your body from one gender to another.  FTM's often take on more manly characteristics without having a prosthetic penis. Same can be true for MTF.

That’s not exactly true - if you are caught engaging in homosexual activity in the Islamic Republic, the judge is able to offer you the option of a full sex change operation, rather than death. Many within the LGBT media, advocacy, organizations, etc. try to spin this as some sort of a positive policy - a sign of a liberal Iran. Nothing is further from the truth. This is just Iran’s way of erasing homosexuality. The Ayatollahs who recognised transgenders in 1987, only did so because to their backward thinking, a gay man has the soul of a woman - so change the sex, problem solved. It also helps their international image - better to mass surgeries than mass executions, especially when some idiots point to Iran for there supposed “enlightened” views on transgenders vs the west.

There was a really hard to watch undercover documentary a few years back about this - nearly 100% of the men forced to have the surgery were gay men who wanted to remain men. Even though the Islamic Republic will recognise them as women post surgery, most have their families turn on them, lose jobs, lose housing. Your new “corrected” sex may be legally recognised, but there is no support, no protections. Most turn to prostitution, and a staggering number wind up committing suicide. I remember it was very hard to watch - lots of hitting pause, taking a break to get thru it. I cannot imagine being on that position.

As far as Logan’s transition goes - knock me down with a feather! From gay4pay, to right wing televangelist Christian - married with kids, to transitioning to April. That’s one rollercoaster ride - and to answer OP’s question, that’s a hard no from me. I wish April well, but I identify as a gay man, who is attracted to other men so this identity doesn’t do anything for me.

This is a little off topic, but I met a cute guy at a bar several weeks ago. I expressed an interest in him, but he then told me he was transgender. He explained he was born male, but started estrogen a month earlier. He told me that he eventually wants to get a boob job, but keep his penis.

It was an interesting meeting because he presented masculine with male clothing while saying his goal was to look more feminine & a bit androgynous at the same time
