It's mind boggling, so I just give you the article about the gay cops being banned from the gay parade in New York:

https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-nyc-pride-bans-nypd-gay-officers-action-league-20210515-hhf2iizxvvcqhjo766nfl3yvh4-story.html

It's part of a trend that began around 2019:

I hope there is more to the story. Pride has always been about inclusiveness and finding power in your truth.

The Gay Pride parade hasn't been relevant for 25+ years.

The super woke organizers should just end it.

P.S. The NYPD has kept the Pride Parade safe from skinheads, fascists, religious nuts, etc., etc., for decades. Good luck for the future! I wouldn't get anywhere near it.

Seriously, I totally agree.

This ban on police inclusion reminds me of GLBTA.... being excluded from St. PATTY'S events.

Not really comparable. And that has been remedied.

Now that the organizers have announced police will stand back and their private security (mall cops?) will be on hand, I really wouldn't get anywhere near it. (Not that a trail of bland, corporate branded "floats" and a half dozen hopeless political candidates is remotely interesting, anyway.)

The super woke groups are jumping the shark and endangering their silly selves and everyone around them in the process.

I would avoid.

The NY Times has a more in-depth look at the issue today:

As for the relevance of the parade, think of young gays newly out and the thrill they get from flaunting their orientation to the world on Gay Pride Day. Their confidence in who they are is reinforced by the crowds. Us old fogies typically don't need that reinforcement, but I remember when I also shared that thrill. Parades now rather bore me, but it wasn't always the case.

I participated in both the staid Annual Reminder picketing with Frank Kameny in the 1960s and the first exuberant Gay Pride March in 1970, so none of this surprises me. It just emphasizes the fact that being gay is only one part of any individual's make-up and history, and not necessarily the most important part.

And the fight goes on.....

When a board votes against its membership in a closed meeting.....the end is near.

The militant left is just as bad as the far right. They feed off of each other.

When I look at the police photo associated with the attached article I see like 90% people of color and women. And the super woke crowd can't even be happy about that! You just can't please them. They need and thrive off of controversy and aggression. And as you can read, they will just as happily violate democratic norms and choice as will hard core conservatives. I say a pox on both ends of the spectrum.

This year's parade now has so much negative energy associated with it it should be cancelled and revisited next year after they get their shit together with a whole new executive committee.

Nevermind. Incomplete thought.

Why can't I delete my post as used to be the case?

Within the three dots at upper right in your post should be a "hide" option. It's the same as "delete".

Bravo

Well put.

I grow weary of this constant battle between two groups of psychopaths.

No one ever seems to find a middle ground but Libertarians and no one ever votes for them.

I just don't understand this push. Now I am very much for criminal justice reform. i think we put too many people in jail and for crimes where no one is really hurt. Drug laws, or a few decades ago sodomy laws, prostitution/solicitation laws etc. Crimes should be when one hurts another.

But to me police only use existing laws-one should work on changing laws -not get rid of police?? I mean if someone breaks into your home or robs you-who you gonna call-Ghostbusters???? Our country is going mad!
