Shorter Shorts at the Gym?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me, or is there a new trend for shorter shorts at the gym? After years seeing guys in baggy shorts well below the knee, I saw quite a few guys at the gym today with shorts that came to mid-thigh or a bit shorter. In addition, they seemed a bit less baggy as well. If the trend holds, it will certainly make for better views while working out.

It's not just you... shorter shorts at the gym (and outside of the gym) have definitely become a trend. I have a couple of short gym shorts myself that are designed to be worn commando.

Oddly perhaps, it goes in parallel with guys wearing shorts over compression pants, which creates a lot of coverage.

So cover up or strip down, your choice!

I’ve noticed more guys in fluorescent/very bright tanktops at the gym. I guess they want to be noticed. Fine by me :)

Definitely ok with the short shorts trend since I’m a top. Lol

I guess the 80s really are back fashion-wise. I'm seeing a lot more off-the-shoulder shirts on women besides the stuff mentioned already.

Shorter shorts provide better comfort and versatility with a lot of the current trends in working out (CrossFit, HIIT, Parkour, etc.), allowing you to move more freely, visually see the movements ,to ensure proper form too... honestly, the aesthetic is just much better too ?

Exactly. Long baggy "bro" shorts get in the way. Can't stand them. Aesthetically pleasing on me or not, I don't want them much longer than mid-thigh or an inch or two longer at most. Not looking for them so short that my junk falls out, though...gotta have a little class. ? Oh and some stretch and give in the fabric for the varied movements...squats, deadlifts, leg press, etc.

Mom nearly busted at Six Flags — after guard says her shorts were too short

A Colorado mom says she nearly got arrested at a Six Flags amusement park — when a security guard claimed her shorts were too skimpy.

Bailey Breedlove, who says she has autism, wrote on Facebook that her family’s vacation to Frontier City Six Flags in Oklahoma City, Okla., on April 30 was ruined by the horrific “body shaming’’ experience.

“I was terrified I was about to go to jail over a pair of shorts,’’ she said.

Breedlove said the family trip went off the rails after “my daughter was yelled at by a park police officer for rolling down a hill on her heelies right next to me, I was holding her hand.

“Then [the guard] proceeded to follow me and grabbed my shoulder to turn me around and proceeded to tell me my shorts were ‘too short,’ ” Breedlove wrote in the May 2 posting — which included now-viral video of part of the encounter.

“I committed no crime and proceeded to walk to my boyfriend as I am autistic and have a hard time talking to officers,’’ the mom said. “She followed me yelling and calling for backup.

“Then your incompetent manager showed up and began body shaming me. I was told I needed to go buy new shorts which I am not obligated to purchase anything I don’t want to.

“Then I was threatened with criminal trespassing when I agreed to buy new shorts so my family could enjoy their vacation,’’ Breedlove said.

“I was then pushed and escorted toward the entrance. Accepting this, we were about to leave and were blocked by your female officer from leaving and she pulled out her cuffs and demanded my ID,’’ said the woman — whose 11-year-old daughter can be seen in the footage sitting next to her mom crying.

“When we asked for probable cause their answer was ‘because they are the police,’ ” Breedlove said.

It appears the mom was eventually released without being cuffed or arrested — although she writes in the post that she has been banned from the park for five years.

It’s not clear what dress-code policy Breedlove may have broken.

According to Six Flags’ website, “In keeping with our family-friendly environment, and for safety reasons, Six Flags enforces a dress code.

“Proper attire must be worn in the park at all times, including shirts and appropriate footwear. Clothing or tattoos with offensive language or graphics are not permitted at any time.”

The mom was wearing a yellow Pokemon T-shirt.

A Six Flags spokesperson told The Post in a statement that Breedlove “was initially stopped because her shorts exposed a significant portion of her buttocks.”

But, the spokesperson said, the mother was escorted from the park “because of her behavior towards the police, our team members, and other park guests.

“Six Flags does not body shame and did not remove this guest from Frontier City because of the length of her shorts,” the spokesperson added.

Six Flags conducted an internal review of the encounter.

Based on their findings, Breedlove “was given multiple opportunities to change or cover up, but refused. Instead, she responded with profanity and offensive conduct, including further exposing her buttocks,” the spokesperson said.

I am so happy that shorter shorts are back. I've hated the longer shorts trend since the later 1980's. I like 5-7" shorts at the gym. If I'm running and away from an audience, I prefer the split side 3" running shorts for cool airflow and freedom of movement.

I'm seeing the 80s again in vain far north Dallas from all age groups. I should of saved a couple pairs of my OP shorts! (Only us 80s brats will remember OP shorts) And, short swim trunks, too.

I was a early/mid-80s baby and OPs were what I wore as a kiddo.

A few years back, I went on a eBay buying spree, finding as many original pairs as I could. 4-inch inseams. Super comfy.

I also found (and love) another brand that mimics them a bit, but also adds in a higher '70s waist:

There's a lot from the 80's that should stay in the 80's - I'm thinking electric-blue/fuschia spandex singlets and such.

I am very critical of myself, and know when something DOESNT look good on me. Even if its stylish, I wont wear it if I feel I look foolish, or it just doesnt suit me.... I will always try to present the "best" me that I can..... Even at 70, my legs are great so I can pull off shorter shorts, but not sure they are appropriate ? My mirror is my Friend !

Proviso: I will never give up my "brief/speedo" style swimsuit for boardshorts, simply because I HATE the farmers tan look......

OP and Quicksilver. In Hawaii, they called them ball huggahs, since we wore them just a little too tight.
