Might anyone here know of trustworthy/reliable companies or individuals who execute quality transfers of old 8mm reels? I've got an old (straight) nudie film I need transferred for research purposes (and, for once, that's not an alibi but the truth).

I've found a million online companies who say they do this for home movies etc, but I'd rather choose one recommended or trusted by folks who have direct experience, ideally with transferring materials made for a "mature" audiences...

Amazon offers a service for this - if you search the amazon site for "8mm transfer" it should come up. You can also buy a digitizer and scan it in yourself if you have a number of them you want to take care of - but that is a more expensive option as you will be buying a digitizer to attach to your computer.

Unless your video contains something illegal (e.g. child porn), I would think that any reliable transfer service (e.g. Walmart, Amazon, Costco) would not jeopardize its reputation by breaking your privacy.

Having said that, it's likely more economical, and certainly more private, to do it yourself by getting a used 8mm projector (buy off Ebay or Craigslist), project your film on a white board, and videotape it with your smartphone or camera. Then transfer the video to your computer for editing or transferring to a DVD disc.

Or, you could buy a transfer machine off Amazon. If you have a lot of film to transfer, this would make the most sense since some professional services are not cheap.

Be sure to read the description of the product very carefully - the scanner you highlighted will only scan to stills. Won't scan film to digital video.

If you want film to digital video, choose the correct product, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Wolverine-Converter-Scanner-Convert-Scanning/dp/B01KA32HH0/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=8mm+transfer&qid=1619974269&sr=8-17
