Not disinterested, but British Air thinks UK/US travel is approaching and that the May 17 date for Europe to open to travel is still on track. LINK

British Airways Chief Executive Sean Doyle said there was an “immediate opportunity” to open up routes to the United States, given the fast pace of vaccine roll outs in both countries.

Britain’s aviation minister Robert Courts said on Wednesday that while the government did want to unlock travel, he could not offer airlines more clarity yet. The government would give more details in early May, he said.

Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye was also more circumspect, predicting a “patchy” re-opening of travel with long-haul journeys more likely.“There is less chance of being able to fly to Europe in the next few months than there is of flying to the US or Israel or the Caribbean or Singapore,”

I know from shuttling friends that the 2 Washington/London flights on BA have been operating consistently almost-full throughout the pandemic (even when condensed to one flight). Since the UK is independent of the EU now and both the US and UK have very high vaccination rates, I expect US/UK travel with tests but without quarantine to open before May 17 when intra-EU and UK travel is supposed to open. (ESTA's have been being issued and honored for months and the only rule is a EU traveler not having been in the EU for 14 days prior to coming into the US).

do you think it will be possible to travel from the US to Chamonix in France the first week of August?

i'd feel good about US/London.

US/EU might depend on whether Greece is allowed to keep it's May 17 announced date by the EU.

By early May we should know when.

Also it's reciprocal agreements, the US has to allow EU.

Thanks!

Within the EU, though, I believe that Slovenia, Croatia and Portugal are accepting Americans. Also, outside the EU, I believe that Albania is.

The International travel restrictions are rediculous at this point, this virus is literally all over the world at this point. They would be better served to require proof of vaccination, and/or require mitigation measures (mask, distance) from travelers. And Ive been a hard pro-quarantining distancing and masking advocate.

Not everywhere. We've had no cases for about six months other than those that could be traced to people in quarantine hotels. Same in New Zealand, and we will finally be able to travel to and from there starting Monday without quarantine. Despite our relative success in containing the virus, our vaccine roll-out has been excruciatingly slow. Some might say 'botched'. We won't see our borders open for some time, and our vaccination rates will be a bigger factor in the decision than those for potential arrivals. Businesses and those who used to travel widely will soon become restive, but most people are very happy to keep the borders closed and the virus out. As a big country with a wide variety of places to travel we are taking to the skies (and to the road) domestically in increasing numbers. Qantas expects to exceed pre-covid levels of flying within the country in the coming months. All that said, it's widely recognised that we can't live in a gilded cage forever and we'll have to accept the higher risk that comes from more open travel sooner rather than later. I'll be over the moon if I can make it to the DC forum lunch in January, but I ain't buying tickets just yet.

Fingers crossed there won't be another wave over there in Australia & New Zealand as you guys are enter your colder season. Here in NYC area, covid cases dropped from June to mid-November but then increased again due to colder weather and the holidays.

Canada also did a good early job with containment, but the vaccine roll out has been botched. Only 2% have received both jabs so far, and more than 8000 new cases yesterday. Hospitalizations are at record highs and many areas are entering lockdown again. Very disappointing. Like with many things, Cansda does well out of the gate, only to collapse in the final turn.

saw this for those with Delta or Flying Blue miles. one-way Biz class for 30.5K. Croatia is open to the US and to most of Europe. also Delta is starting non-stops to Zagreb and Dubrovnik both and the 1st daily nonstops from IAD to Athens all starting June 1. (Greece opens May 14) Didn't see any rewards close to the Flying Blue 30K Biz class in December though for sooner. But not bad rewards either.

update: Today Macron said France is opening May 14 also and the travel blogs say most of Europe will along with Greece. The reciprocal US quarantine on EU will also drop then. Both EU and US will require vaccination proof or negative tests.

I know the UK isn't a part of the EU anymore but I am hoping they will follow soon as well. I'm itching to take my flight in August. I have a hot guy waiting for me. (Ok not waiting per se lol)

I don't care if my guy comes here or I go there or we meet. Been since September.

considering a london trip in August. Broadway isn't reopening until at least after labor day but some west end shows are opening as early as late May. If I can catch a few shows that would be great plus one of my favorite escorts is based in Loindon making the trip een more fun:)

I'll be in London in August. Hopefully, we aren't there at the same time if we are interested in the same person. ?
